If Rickie Fowler's success and win(s) bring more kids to the game of golf, great. However, his outfits and those Cobra Amp clubs look like they were props for the movie 'Idiocracy'

Plants crave Rickie.

No kidding!!!  With all that fame and money, he's crazy to be tied down.

Good grief.  If I had that much money and fame at his age... I would've had some serious fun (that sound like AK whose career is in tailspin due to injury-not from partying).

But congrats to Ricky, well done.

He didn't putt from the fringe. They mowed their last green cut around the outside to make a smooth edge.

He putted from the green.

Then according to the pictures posted earlier, you're saying the green goes straight from green to rough?  I've never seen that before.  The pics really appear to show a different length cut, which is where D.A. was putting from.

Regarding Fowler, it's not like he's married or anything.  I wouldn't exactly call it being tied down.  On the subject of his GF, she looks like she's about 15 years old.  Yuck.  Pretty, but yuck.

I think that the pictures posted were of the wrong hole, which would also explain why the poster didn't see him mark his ball. On the hole shown in the pictures, he's clearly on the fringe. On the hole that zwick and I posted about yesterday (18), IMO he was on the green, but the way they mowed around the circumference made it look like he was on the fringe.

Those pictures are taken from the sudden death playoff hole (#18). Checkout the video that I posted too. I have no idea what Erik is talking about. It's clearly the fringe.

Then that's the right hole, but the wrong time. The question was about 18 during regulation play.

Why? He was in the green side bunker after his approach shot during regulation and bogeyed the hole. He wasn't on the fringe in regulation.

When I click on the video, it just says "This is a private video." Did you accidentally post one of Tiger's videos?

I'll change that. Just a sec.

Thanks, the video works now, and that's the playoff hole, all right. I guarantee that zwick and I were talking about regulation play. Points hit his third shot from the bunker to the ring around edge of the green, which on TV looked like the fringe. But from your pictures, I'm sure it was the darker colored ring that you labelled "green," and not the fringe. By the way, we weren't the only ones who were fooled. The shot tracker http://www.pgatour.com/shottracker/#/current/r480/4/player/25240/ thought it was on the fringe (which is called "fairway" for their purposes), too. If you have that hole on your DVR and recheck it, I think you'll agree. It makes a lot more sense than every spectator on the course watching him clean his ball on the fringe, and nobody saying anything, and the network editing it out. They might do that for Tiger, but not for Points.

I don't have it on the DVR any longer... But check this video out... At the 1:43 point.

You can see from this photo taken at the video at the 1:43 point - he was indeed on the green.

If someone has the original CBS airing of the playoff hole... Does D.A. mark and clean his ball while on the fringe (3rd shot)?  The re-air didn't show any of this as it was edited out.

Right, that's what I was talking about. The darker color around the edge of the green fooled me, and apparently fooled the scorer at ShotTracker, too. Points marked and cleaned his ball before hitting that putt (in regulation), and that's why zwick asked about it. They didn't edit it out of the playoff hole, because he didn't clean his ball when it was on the fringe.

Rob Lee mentioned it briefly on the Sky coverage in the UK, then didn't mention it again - presumably he got a whisper in the ear from someone.

Exactly, at first it looked like it was the fringe because of the different (slightly darker) color. But a few minutes later you could see (with a different camera angle from behind the green) that it was just mown differently than the rest of the green. In the playoff, he didn't mark his ball as far as I remember.

He didn't mark and lift his ball from the fringe. I'm talking about his 72nd hole, not his 73rd. He putted from the green in regulation play (regulation play != "green in regulation").

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
