This is oh so very off topic, but when I was in high school I had to attend a pahhhks depahhhtment meeting for a project. Their just free and lose with teh words.

I was talking with a friend about this a few days ago after he typed "looser" instead of loser.

My theory is that, phonetically, "looser" looks to the eye how the word "loser" sounds.  "Loser" has the sound of two "o"s back to back.  Dictionary.com agrees:

We tend to try to fix those, but if my only reaction to the OP is "whaaaaa???" I might be slightly less likely to spend the time. Then the misspelling just sets the tone for what's coming up, so you get a bit of a warning. :-p
