I guess the ladies are playing a major this week. I wouldn't have noticed either, except Michelle Wie just moved into a tie for the lead, after having an absolutely dismal season up to now.

Considering the media hype surrounding Beachcomber as a teenager, he seems to be meeting expectations.

On topic, if the leaderboard at this year's Women's US Open doesn't pull people in then there is seriously no hope for the LPGA regaining the popularity it had in the early 90s.

Now, if we could just get Beachcomber to ditch his parents, Ledbetter and go see Butch, he'd be on the right track.  Oh, and he shouldn't have gone to college at Stanford either.  How dare he get an education.

My agent decided I should stay in school.

I think she'll improve now that she has graduated.  At least she's playing.  Her classmate and friend, Andrew Luck, hasn't even signed yet.

The Beachcomber is the name of my favorite bar on Cape Cod. It sits high on a dune above the nice beach.  They occasionally see Great White sharks there.  Recommend it to anyone visiting the outer cape in Wellfleet.

Back on topic.  I guess they had 100 degree heat and nasty humidity on day one.  Yesterday was better.  Creamer is doing OK but missing putts.  Yani is no where to be seen.  Is she playing?

Checked out the highlights on thegoolfchannel.com. She's spent a good part of the tournament in the hay.

Entertaining stuff today. Though I must say you see more bad shots on the LPGA than the PGA. One player tried putting from the rough and barely got it on the green. Helps having Suzann up there.

I didn't get to watch any of this event... But I was listening to the PGA Tour Radio this morning on XM... And they said someone whiffed on a putt/tap-in?  Anyone see it?

This weekend we have both men's and ladies golf on TV here at the same time. Makes flipping channels a bit more fun. I remember as a teenager working at a tennis club, the male members would often speculate how they could win against the female professionals on TV. Oddly, I don't here the same kind of conversations going on around the 19th hole. Probably because no matter what, all those ladies would kick my foursomes collective butts.

Anytime I see any professional golfer, male or female, flub a shot it makes me realize why this game is so different from any other. The permutations and combinations are endless......so is our ability to perform miracles (chip it in from 30 yards) or public disasters (curl a drive into a swimming poll being enjoyed by the owner).

I didn't realize what a "I think I'm really macho" kind of site this is when I signed up. You men are much too self-absorbed for my liking.

At least she has been consistent this season. Finishes +11.

Not watching the LPGA has nothing to do with being macho; I don't watch it for the same reason I don't watch the Senior Tour or the Nationwide Tour, namely I want to see the best players in the world. If you don't think there are enough threads that are enlightened, then start some, rather than complaining about other people.

It's true that membership on this site is predominately male and some here really have issues with the LPGA. I enjoying watching the women play and this week's US Open was pretty entertaining. I didn't see Saturday's round but it looks like I missed a truly spectacular round of golf by Na Yeon Choi. She shot a 65 when the average of the field was 77 and the next best score was 69. On yesterday's telecast, Annika Sorenstam said something to the effect that it was the greatest round she'd ever seen.

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
