Forget the drive, I have trouble believing you have a 27 handicap and have played only 10 weeks.  I think once you learn ALL the rules of golf,  your handicap will increase to max (assuming you play by all the rules).

What if you turn the toe down post-impact in order to create a post-impact draw?

The guy said you hit it in the direction the toe is pointed at impact , not post impact.  The toe of my clubs are pointed 90 degrees right of the direction of of the ball flight at impact.  How could you possibly hit a ball with the toe pointed in the direction of flight????   The FACE is pointed in the direction that the flight starts, not the toe.

That's it. Jimbo Slice must be hitting all of his drives towards Lake Merced!

That is ridiculous. I was in the mid 20's withing 3 months of starting, and I read, understood, and played by the rules. Natural athletic talent, constant practice, and playing often will do that. Getting below 20 is a piece of cake. Its when you hit 15 that it slows down. When you get below 10, thats when the real hard work starts.  Just because you are a new player with a 36hc, doesn't mean everyone is.

I believe Iacas said he broke 100 his first round, after practicing all winter when he started. There is no set time to get to a certain HC. You just need to practice hard and play a lot.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you're getting such a hard time in this thread other than you seem to be a bit cocky and braggadocious with your claims.  It's whatever to me.

I'd say defensive and annoying is more like it

What I meant by that statement is that the ball will always start out in the direction that the toe of the club is facing at impact. This is like hitting a fade or draw for example. Toe to the right ball goes right. toe left ball goes left, ( rt. handed player) If the ball then turns more rt. or lt. in its flight then your swing plane added to the problem. just like ping pong, or any other ball and stick game.

Why bring another term into this? We already have face angle (relative to path or target line, depending).

I have no difficuly believing that an inexperienced player can hit it 300+, esp. if the person is athletic, limber, coordinated and already talented in another sport such as tennis or baseball.  During my last round I had 2 of my best drives GPS measured (by another player) at 280-285 yds and I'm a rather stiff older guy who is far from fit, having just recovered from almost a year with a moderately severe autoimmune disease that kept me off the course completely for many months.  If I were stronger and more limber, 300+ would not be such a big deal.

But so what?  As we all know golf is much more a game of accuracy than it is a game of power.  I'm less and less interested in how far I am capable of hitting club X, and more and more interested in knowing accurately how far I DO hit the darned thing.  One of the more unpleasant experiences in golf is in hitting a really clean approach shot, only to find that it goes long or short of the green for no obvious reason.

But boy the game is a lot easier and more enjoyable if you smack the ball out there a ways, on or near the fairway.

This thread probably needs to be locked by now, the OP very likely went to Trackman and got a sobering dose of reality and doesn't want to hear the " I told you so's" that he arguably deserves, or just completely blew it off for fear of finding out his claims are bogus. I gotta say to any newbies that going to a golf forum and pounding your chest proclaiming superiority by being able to swing out of your shorts and get a ball to roll up on 300 yards on hard desert fairway is going to get ridiculed and called fos by others that have seen and done a lot more on a golf course than he will probably ever see or do.Even if he can get swing speeds up to 105 doesn't mean he can carry 300 yards in fact 105 is probably a minimum speed with perfect angle of attack and launch.

You may be right about him thinking he's going to get a bunch of "I told you so's," but I don't think he would.  (He'd get a lot of "good for you for following throughs, I respect that."  I also disagree that he "deserves" it either.

Lastly, what is with the obsession with 300 yard CARRY on this thread?  I mean, who here plays courses where the fairway starts at 275 out after a giant water hazard?  When Tiger hits a 'stinger' 2-iron 260 yards, is that a different 260 yards than a lofty 3 wood?

EDIT:  It's also possible he may have come to the realization that the opinions of all of us don't mean anything to him, so he didn't even bother to go to the Trackman.  (That would be a good superhero name for a crime fighter who's alter ego was a golf teacher)

Okay, so clubface. That's fine.

You're going to confuse everyone if you keep saying "toe" though.

I was just saying maybe some of the back and forth with other posters may get some of the I told you so's,he did call someone a "dick" once, I personally will not and in fact I apologized for doubting him on some aspects of his swing but I really don't think hes got the swing to get that kind of carry, and the fact that his naive nature when it comes to what defines a 300 yard drive really put some people off and honestly I can't blame them entirely.I  can't even begin to count how many times I hear my golfing buddies make the same statement that if I could just drive the ball I know my scores would be a lot lower and I mean lower like breaking 80 lower. And of course I can putt fine I just can't drive the ball well, well the driver is probably my most consistent club but I will state that if I can somehow hit my irons with half the consistency I hit my drives I could score even par most of the time lol.Oh yeah my putting is just fine lol. Anyways Jimbo if your reading this just man up and do the trackman, that way anyone else coming in here making their assertions about their prodiginous will be held to the "Jimbo Slice" standard of evidence.

Just about anyone can drive 300+ if they find that zone where club sweet spot, swing speed, and angle intersect; the  problems are controlling it and replicating it.Remember most long-ball record holders have not and will not ever play golf at the pro level.

Anybody can dunk if they find that zone with the right height, coordination and vertical leap, too.

    • they’re hoping that someday all the other red chilis will stink so they can win. 😜
    • The family went to a Chili Cook-off this past weekend. I realized something.  Every Chili Cook-off I've ever been to somebody brings a white chili.  That person never wins.  White Chili is fine. But if you are making it for a chili cook-off are you actually just conceding?
    • Well said.  Er, um... Well typed... 🤷‍♂️ This is what I suspect as well. I also didn't think about your point about impulse buys and the current hoopla. There are definitely a lot of folks talking about these right now. "The revealer" whether it actually proves anything or not, is clearly a great sales technique. I hear even hear the old folks at the range (am I one of those now?) talking about these. Words to the effect of "I really need to get a lie angle balance putter..." etc...
    • I'm probably preaching to the choir with your background, but I'm sure most retailers worth their business salt will price it for some combination  of: delivered cost + current perceived market value + expected lower revenue for slow moving inventory + expected obsolescence. The 'market value' might be the largest component.  Retailers with low inventory build to order for long lead times have lower obsolescence recover cost added but it really hurts the impulsive buyer market, which is big when there is all this hoopla raging. The impulsive buyer also tends to pay more. I'm guessing that LAB wont make you wait unless you want custom tweaked stuff.
    • Fair points - one thing I would note, speaking as a consumer, the base model here is already very expensive. There is a (fairly large) part of me that is much more willing to pay additional customization costs if it's going to work better when the underlying product is expensive. If I'm getting a $10 putter out of a bargain bin, I'm comfortable giving it a try and if it doesn't work, then whatever - no big deal. Spend $450 plus tax and it better be good. I'd rather have something for 560 that's spot on rather than something that's 450 and not what I need. I'd also go the extra mile and pick out some of the visual customization as well - different color, different alignment lines etc. I don't necessarily see that $110 as poor value when it's already a high end and expensive piece of equipment. I don't know whether that's me being what the market will bear or that it costs them that much more to make it, but I don't particularly care either way. At the end of the day it really is just about what the market (i.e. me) will bear.  I will also note that I don't have a LAB putter and while I am periodically tempted, I'm not going to get one until I can be sure I'm getting the one that's right for me. Short of going to Oregon, I'm not sure how that can happen either, so I will remain a spectator who occasionally pops to PGA Superstore to have a play around with one.
