I guess at A6 sinceΒ shaft points right of target and movement from there up to A7 is naturally right (from our vision POV) it sure feels that way. I always thoughtΒ that the trick would be let the left arm completely freewheel out to what feels like open club faceΒ AND right of target club path from A6 onwards (not attempt to pull up or actively rotate arm or hand, etc.) even after A7.Β Easier said than done.Β Hard to trust to let the damn thing square up face and path on its own and not to try to controlΒ both somewhat instinctively. Seems like you are winning the battle lately.Β Β Β

Dana and Mike explain it during the last minute or less of my video a few posts up. Β Dana's words at the end were something like "it's a draw path with a cuttier pivot." Β Instead of just cheating with weight forward and swinging out to the right, I'm opening up the shoulders and hips, which produces the cutty feel, but counteracting it with a laid down shaft and bowed left wrist to get the draw path.

Nice, Drew! Β What happened, family go away on vacation leaving you kid-less? Β :-D

Ha. Β No, I played two of the rounds during the week when I was supposed to be working, and the last round with family at Easter so there is plenty of babysitting help around. :) Β I doubt I'll be able to play much in the next couple of weeks though. :(

Nice, man. It definitely looks like a better motion.Β Can you make the picture look like this fairly easily orΒ is it fragilΓ© and new?Β

Thanks! Β In general do think it's at least incrementally better, that is,Β the things I'm monitoring.

In DTL view, it's mostly the left wrist and right elbow from A4-A5 that I'm keeping tabs on, and there is certainly less cupping of the wrist and tipping out of the elbow. Β It's not where I want it to be, though, because there is no actual shallowing occurring, but for now, since there is at least much less steepening, I'll take it as progress.

In FO view, I'm mostly watching the head, and I've improved the backswing there for sure, it's not really tipping forward. Β However, on the downswing, it's still falling back some so there is more to be done there.

And to answer your question, it's closer to the latter, sadly. Β I still have to think about it to do it.

Not sure if this is related to anything, or if its even anything more than cosmetic, but I notice that I really dislike the clubface motion from A8-A9 or thereabouts. Β Yuck.

I would agree with all that. Yea the backswing seems to have shown the most progress both from DTL and FO, IMO. Sure, the elbows are separating still from 4-5, but it seems like the backswing stuff has at least indirectly helped improve that a bit too. And like you said, it may not be shallowing, but it's certainly not steepening to the extent that it was. Keep at it, Drew!

Haha, not too psyched about that super late high rate of closure? A general rule of thumb on that one (that you already know): If the instructor(s) didn't mention it, don't worry about it haha.Β

@Golfingdad, look at your right elbow from 3.5 to 4.5. If there was a ball squeezed in there, it'd be falling out at 4 or 4.2 or so.

Aha. Β Sounds like it's a good time to dust off the Pipoe ball! Β I know right where it is.

Thanks!

Probably going to re-up with Evolvr soon just to get back on track with practice.

To save yourself having to hear it from them… put your hands farther away from you at setup. :-)

I'll let them address the rest.

P.S. Sign up before January 1 if possible. You'll save $10.

Thanks! Β I signed up yesterday so I'm back on the road to improving through focused practice. Β Lower handicap here I come!

Please post the results of your lesson and your subsequent range work. Your hand pathΒ in transition is a fairly common problem for good players and it will be interesting to hear what drills areΒ used to cure it.Β

Most definitely, I will do that.

Thanks! Β Yeah, I fell into a bit of a rut and figured a little break from instruction (since I still had a good idea of a few things to work on anywayΒ ;)) might help me to sort of "start fresh" this next time.

Those are some fun goals. I hope to get to where you are eventually with your hcp and also playing in some more tournaments. How long have you been playing in local tourneys? Β What's your your best score in a competitive round? Β Do you know what area of your game needs to change to get to a "2" or maybe what your priority piece from evolvr is? Β Happy new year and best of luck in reaching your goals!

Hey @Wanzo, I moved our conversation over here since it's kind of off topic for the goals thread. Β I started playing in flighted competitive events about 4 years ago on the Golf Channel Am Tour, but Β last year was the first year I had a low enoughΒ handicap to attempt to qualify for any scratch championships. Β Soon, so far, I've only tried one each of the SCGA Mid-amΒ and the SCGA Am, and I shot 81 and 83 respectively. Β (If you wereΒ interested, there are some detailed recaps of these and many other events of mine and other members here:Β

My best score in a competitive round so far is a 76. Β I did it in a Golf Channel event that I won a few years ago and did it at Newport Cup last time once also. :)

Yeah, to get into the 2's, the area of my game that needs to improve the most is my swing, but honestly, tiny improvements in all areas can help at this point. Β First and foremost, I need to hit more greens. Β I probably average around 7 right now and I would guess that number needs to be about 9. Β My number of 3-putts per round is closer to 1 than 0 and that is something I could stand to improve upon as well. Β Up-and-down percentage can stand to rise too. Β But mainly, I just need to hit more greens.

My first lesson is (I think) a fairly simple one. Β As Erik mentioned above, I need to move my hands a little further away from me at setup and then I also need to keep my head more still during the backswing. Β Specifically, I let my head rotate with my arms and then it also tends to tip forward as well. Β If I can keep it from rotating, then it should be a bit easier to keep it from tipping forward.

And that's it to start. :)

As I mentioned above, my first Evolvr lesson for the new year consists of one setup change and one backswing change. Β Stephan (and Erik) wanted me to setup with my hands further away from my body. Β Yesterday was my first practice session after this lesson and I tried to accomplish this partially by simply backing up away from the ball:

A1-before-after.jpg

For a change so seemingly minor, I will say this - my ball flight seemed exceptionally high after this little move.

The other change seems simple, but is anything but. Β I need to keep my head more still. Β Trial 1 = fail:Head-tilts-before-after.jpg

Before on left, and the red line in each video is from the top of my cap through the middle of the bill at A1, with the blue being the same line at A4. Β Not much difference here yet so we'll keep at it. Β I'm thinking I need to find a little flashlight or laser pointer or something and just tape it to my hat, then I can easily practice this at night in the living room.

That's great!Β  I enjoyed reading about some of your tournament experiences the last year or so, thanks for sharing.Β  Reading about them is encouraging me to try some this year.

I have a similar issue with the head, I had to first change mine to even line up with my spine.Β  I wasn't even in the right position to start, where it's aligned with my spine tilting a little to the right.Β  But now, at least the setup is right, but I still let it rotate probably a little more than it should.Β  My thought for that right now is to think about keeping my right ear "in place".Β  Erik helped me by having me tilt my ear a little closer to my shoulder, so I do that at setup and then think about keeping it there.Β Β Since I wear glasses, I try to keep the perspective of my glasses the same throughout the swing....but a hat with laser beams probably works too :-P.Β  Keep up the focused practice!

Trying to work on keeping my heading steady in my living room - put together this contraption:

IMG_9672.JPG

Seems it's easy for me to keep it steady for the first half of the backswing - but then my left shoulder bumps into my chin and my head starts to rotate for the last bit.
