I like Phelps. He's a great athlete. I'm sure he'll be able to learn golf quickly.

... Michael Phelps will be his student.      No idea what kind of game he has going in, but should be interesting ...

I feel that way about the show, too.  It's a fantastic idea and should be interesting, entertaining and even informative for those of us trying to learn golf as well . .. but it's just formula-driven crap-ola.  With such a great concept and great guest stars it should really be a whole lot better.  Not sure who's to blame - Haney or Golf Channel.  Golf Channel makes a lot of shows that totally suck so I guess my inclination is to blame them.

I concur with all these sentiments about Haney's show and his teaching. His method is uninspiring, uncreative brute force. He does the pupeteer thing showing various positions, and then goes home telling the student to hit 4000 balls while he drinks wine and soaks in his hot tub.

I find Golf Fix and At the Range to be much more usefull.

Is Haney one of the producers?  I stopped watching when Rush Limbaugh was brought in...

No, the exec producers are Steve Rotfeld and Tom Farrell.   They've done a bunch of other sports-related shows like Sports Disasters, Lighter Side of Sports, Baseball's 101 Funniest Moments, Super Sports Follies, etc.      They seem to specialize with fluffy sports shows and then sell the show to the various sports networks such as TGC.     They also did the Golf in America series for TGC.

Yeah it's a  bummer this show is so bad.  I agree it could be fun and useful to watch a famous coach teaching, but it's like 98% crappy reality show.

In theory you'd think it might be more interesting with him teaching a world class athlete, but swimming of course is nothing at all like golf.  They should bring in some recently retired hockey star who wants to get into the game or something...

Not much of a project, taking a gifted athlete and trying to teach him to hit a golf ball.  Phelps isn't entertaining out of the water, and Haney is Haney so I see this season being a snooze fest, but I'll probably watch it because I'm a golf addict.

Haney has lived off of Tiger long enough.  I would like to see one of the best young instructors get a shot and make a bigger name for themsleves.  Someone like Jeff Ritter, etc. who are great instructors but do not have great pros on their resume to live off of.

That's why I posted my comment. He's boring...to me at least.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
