Tiger has now broken the 100 million dollar mark for on course earnings!  Wow!  That is amazing!  In comparison to Snead, the career leader in wins with 82, made 620,126 dollars.  In 74 wins, Tiger has made 100,350,700.  Of course, times are different these days with MUCH larger purses, but Tiger can be thanked for his hand in the added wealth of those purses.  The tournament winnings have gotten quite a bit bigger over the years, but his dollar stat has a lot to do with playing well when it counts.

Golf Digest reports:

Quote:
Woods has won 74 tournaments, second all-time, including 38 times with a first prize of $1 million or more. His winnings come out to an average of $362,276.89 for each of his 277 career starts.

Not too shabby!  It looks like he will do just fine after the divorce!

Now if only Tiger can do the same with the LPGA.. There is a league that gets no lovin..  100th rank PGA men's tour makes about 800k a year..... Ladies 100th ranked player gets less then 40K..  Something to think about..

The purses are there (pga tour) because the revenue is there. The revenue is there because the spectator interest (in person and television) is there. It's that simple. Find a way to drive more viewership and purses will rise correspondingly....

I don't feel that this should be a big news story.  $100 million doesn't go as far as it would of for Snead.  Yes its alot of money but you have to look at it in comparison.  The price of everything as gone up.  I'm sure the money that Snead and Hogan won was alot back then too

Maybe so, but you know what they say...... A hundred million here, a hundred million there, and before you know it, you're talking real money! :-)

$30 million more and he'll be in John Lackey territory. :-D I read the other day that when Tiger joined the Tour, the previous career money leader was Greg Norman, at just under $10 million. Tiger has eclipsed that number in single seasons several times.

Not really a "big news story."  It's just a story in general. But with that being said, that's a 100 million on course earnings.  Add that with his sponsorships and all of the other money he makes from golf....that money goes far!!  And of course 100 million would go farther back then.  But I would be willing to bet if you crunched the numbers...100 million dollars from winning golf tournaments is still a lot of money today

I bet the LPGA would like to earn that kind of money today...

Wasn't he worth 1bIllion prior to his divorce? 100 mill was just a fraction, who knows now after his divorce and decline of sponsers and wins...

Just read second place is Mickelson at $66 million and change. Big gap there.

Lifetime earnings is probably one of the least significant stats in historical terms.

But then again, what the hell do I know?
