But you're right, no excuse for name calling.

But the GOP does manipulate the ignorant and incite fear - and it has done it daily for four straight years. At least the Democrats only do the same for four months. The problem with doing it for four years, or the advantage for the GOP, is they have brainwashed 35-40% of the public into believing the bs they peddle. It divides the country. They have created a fantasy world, an altered reality, that does the country harm. We have enough real issues to discuss, let's grow up, find solutions, and solve problems.

And no one party has all the solutions, and the solution is not to get rid of the federal government, and give most power to the states (Tea Party). The states? Seriously? In this era?

And look at the game Romney is playing now - after two years of being a right wing advocate and backing right wing legislation, he now comes across as Moderate Mitt in interviews, AND then his campaign retracts his statements, saying to the effect "uh, that's not what Mitt really stands for, let us correct you... he is right wing."

This shows the four year plan to say anything to win - forget convictions, this is an all out war to manipulate and mislead.

We need to make progress, and both sides have valuable contributions to make towards solutions. Even Dems agree that all government, even state government, requires reduction and reform. It is a balance. But if we label people and create fantasies, when are we going to discuss real issues and craft real solutions?

I find it interesting that there is one individual spewing more hate than anyone on this entire thread combined, and yet no one on the left side is suggesting this is a problem. Isn't this part of the problem you have with the right? That they're all biased, hateful, racist, and ignorant, or something like that? Maybe not you personally, but generally?

Me personally, I think folks should be able to act grown up  - disagree and still be friends, and act friendly towards one another. Yes, there are a lot of hot button issues that get people worked up but name calling while accusing someone of being a hater isn't getting anyone anywhere.

I plan to vote for Romney, not because I believe in the man himself so much, but I consider myself conservative and want to see our country be more fiscally responsible. I'd like to see smaller government. I think Romney lines up with those ideals and Obama doesn't.

I live in a state and work in two states that one may label as tea party heaven. And from the people I've talked with, their thoughts are not that different from mine - they happen to think Romney, the ultra conservative Romney, not Moderate Mitt, will represent what they want more than Obama.

There is a common theme - many of them are libertarian in some aspects - they don't want to tell anyone what to do with their lives, but they don't want other's behavior to affect their lives - i.e. if you don't work, you add to the deficit and affect me.If you drink and drive, you may affect me, etc. My thoughts are similar. I am not big on inefficient entitlement programs and think we need to alter entitlements before they take over. I don't care what people do in their personal life as long as they do not endanger me.

They want smaller government - the difference is in the amount of small government. I don't think having 50 different states laws in a time of global competition is exactly efficient nor is it small government. I want gradual change through working together - they seem to want a revolution.

What I don't enjoy is people telling each other how to live their lives (although there is a balance here - I believe in education not legislation when it comes to many issues) the ignorance of facts, science, and the rewriting of history to serve their purpose, and the constant hate mongering that they, the GOP, have displayed over four years. We have real issues - let's get real.

Funny enough being fiscally responsible and having a smaller government are the exact reasons I am voting for Obama. Look at the last 40 years of trends for the justification of that view.  Now Mitt has started to back pedal on some of his fiscally irresponsible views now that primary season is over but he is limited in that his base will not support sound fiscal policies.

It's fine to have racist/homophobic/ignorant views, and negative attitudes towards education.  But keep them to yourself, don't be a legislator.  The problem with the Republican party is that their policies are driven by these beliefs, these views, and these fears of the other.  Thankfully, the truth is that the Republican party is getting older and the country is moving forward, eventually the old generation will die and some of your ideas will die with them.  In the meantime, stop pretending to be the civilized ones.

Okay, I get it, our leaders jabber a lot. At least the real jabber had a few keywords like "economy", "care", etc. Hey, I said they are politicians, didn't I? What were the voice talents taking at the time they did this? ;-) If I were non-American, I would be laughing my socks off. :-(

Gotta say, on the same scale whereby Romney won the first debate, it seemed Biden won this one. Thoughts?

Biden.

Ryan acted like an attack dog without substance. I guess he expects the US to be the puppet master behind every country, have troops in every trouble spot, and to solve the world's problems in less than four years. He wanted Obama to do in less than four years what the sum of our presidents have not done in 50 years. Incredible.

He speaks well but he presents no facts to back up his statements, and no real plan other than to legislate against abortion. When not speaking, he looked smug. But he sounds good - looks like he spends his time working out.

Only if you define winning as demonstrating a complete lack of self-control and disrespect for the debate process, let alone his opponent. He did better than I expected though. I imagine the Dems will call this one a win though, given the mess President Obama made last week and the low expectations everyone had for Joe in the first place. Given that perspective, I'll throw him a cookie too.

More dumbshitness for ya.

Just proves that Fox is more entertainment and sensational than news.

And as other news outlets follow Fox, the same trend will follow.

It's the dumbing down, as if our nation could get more dumbed down.... but Fox has found a way.

And when I question people about current events (and don't offer any opinions) who watch Fox News, their facts are always wrong. I think Fox is showy, loud, uses a lot of bombastic words meant to slide people to their point of view.

And remember, most people don't remember what you say, it's how you say it.  People say if you watched the first prez debate only for the words, Pres. Obama did fine (I'd disagree - he was abysmal on what he did not attack)-- it's his mannerisms and lack of energy that really did him in... according to experts.

So when you're talking, use energy, conviction, lots of hands, and a good story, roll your eyes, and just to make the experts happy, throw out a lot of good facts. Ya' know, the Joe Biden way.  :-)  Joe done good by being Joe

The issue is that many people have encountered racism, bias or any other kind of bullying in their past. We have either been a victim of it or have seen it. It is part of our makeup to resent unfair treatment, unless we are a true sociopath. This is why politics and work don't mix well. Any opinion we give will upset someone, for whatever reason. It could strike a bad cord with them. We are all golfers on this site, seems like we share a common passion. I happen to like Jack. I like the program he has created that gets my kids to play golf, and I would never have played golf if it weren't for this program with my kids. The fact that at least all of us can play it, makes me feel happy to be an American. I hope Jack's dream to make it accessible to all Americans will someday happen, and this makes me think he really is a great athlete.

That's my main issue with politics right now, foreign policy!  We can't win every war, but we can't leave every war either.  The US has become a global police officer trying desperately to pull all countries to our view.  This is not a good idea, but there's no easy way to pull out.  If we stay in war trying to kick Syria's, Iran's, and North Korea's butts, we will create more enemies than destroy.  But, if we leave all of them to their own doing, they may create more enemies to the US, they may not.  But, the US hasn't been one to leave it to chance.

The best way as we have tried to do, is slowly pull away.  Let the countries try to reboot themselves to govern their own body.  This happens by training the countries own troops and teaching the people about policy making.  Not necessarily our own policies, but something that provides them stepping stones to making a "fair" governing body.

The middle east may not look ready to handle things on their own, but the more we baby them, the harder it gets to pull away and the more tensions increase with the people there.  We have to continue to pull out as Obama/Biden has planned.  With the Romney/Ryan plan trying to keep policing every country, we create those unnecessary tensions and enemies that create yet ever more "terrorists" to our country.

So Mr Desmond, where do you get your "facts"?  NY Times, CNN.

I'm not saying that fox isn't biased, but every news outlet is one way or another.  To be informed you have (opinion) reads lots of different points of view.  It seems as though you say things are facts from liberal news sources and that conservative ones are rubbish.

I don't know how anyone can think Biden won.  Being rude, laughing at the opponent, interupting.  A 12 year old could have better manners and does.

Wait, I'm not a racist, I'm young, I have no issues with gays and them having the same rights as opposite sex couples, but I'm conservative?  The things that matter to me are the economy, the economy, the economy.  And the left does nothing to grow wealth.  They (most) think its wrong to be rich and they don't deserve it and don't pay there fair share.  But the facts are that the top 10% pay 80% of the taxes.

And who was in office during the civil rights era?  Dixie Crats, there not racist.  Only evil republicans.   Go Obama.
