Some thoughts from walking the South and North yesterday - not the whole place of course but more than usual.  A very good day overall.

Snedeker was really enjoying himself, he seemed to be smiling the whole time I saw him.  Very relaxed and smooth action.  He was already 6 under at around 2.

Mike Weir looked very sharp esp. with his irons.  I saw him lay up from the rough on a par 4 and said to my friend, "Good decision.  Going for the green was too risky and he could easily make par from here with his short game" - which he proceeded to do.

My friend and I were walking along the 14th talking about Phil's tax situation - my friend takes a different view and thinks he should just suck up the new higher CA tax rate - when we noticed that his wife was walking right behind us with another woman.  Well, that was the end of THAT particular conversation .....  Phil's wife looked very good and seemed to be having a fine time, not that she was following her husband's game very closely, at least for the couple holes we followed him - too busy chatting with her friend.  I hadn't realized that she's quite so petite.

I must say that Daly was looking good and fit.  His weight looks about right and unlike last time I didn't see him smoking - bravo!   I've always been a fan of Charles Howell III and it was good to see him playing so well and enjoying himself.  Never forget, it was here that he flew the ball right into the hole on the approach shot on the 18th on Sunday with a one shot lead; the ball bounced out, ran down the slope and into the pond - loss of tournament.  That guy deserves to win a few more tourneys before he's done.

Beachcomber:  yes, the rough was cut shorter than I've ever seen at Torrey.  Lots of guys were hitting greens from well off the fairway, hence some of the low scoring.

I can recommend the Schwab tent on the 17th fairway.  Cheers!

Gary Player owns the "swing your back leg around on the followthrough" move for all time.

TW looks very good at -11 after 36 holes.  This is going to be a very interesting weekend.  Several solid players are in the hunt.

You know him?

Well, you know how Tiger has nicknames for all his buddies? I call Tiger nicknames and it's like we are buds too.

And you followed the Tiger form of really lame, name-related nicknames. Well done.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
