Refinishing Scotty Cameron Studio Design 1.5

I bought a SC Studio Design 1.5 from my brother. It was pretty rusty and in bad shape, so I decided that I would fix that by refinishing it myself. I was looking to send it away but I would like to use the putter and didn't want to spend that much money to fix it up.

I soaked it in coke for a night and was surprised by how well it took the finish off (I will not be drinking anymore coke to say the least), then I started to sand away. I noticed that there were some dings/rust on the face of the club and sanded off the milling marks. I am now wanting to mill the marks back on but does anyone know about how deep the original milling was? I do not want to have it deep milled just want it to look original again. I have a friend with a machine shop that is going to do it for me, but I want to be apart of it and he isn't much into golf.

Any suggestions will be a great help!

Also, for anyone that has sanded down a putter before with a cavity in the back, what is the best way to sand inside there? It seems to be a really tight spot that I just can't seem to get...

sad to hear a cameron treated so poorly, that is like letting your rolex rust. very sad

coke is delicious :)

I don't know what the exact depth of the milling is, but I know it barely scratches the surface.

use a dremmel tool to get in the cavity.

I would have it professionally refinished by scotty to get it brand new looking.

It's hard to have nice things on a budget.

This is what it looked like: This is what I have so far: I think it is coming around! Slowly but surely polishing it with 0000 steel wool. I have secured the CNC machine but still have not decided if I will go through with it yet or not...I'm afraid it might mess up the face stamping on the club. It is hard to have nice things on a budget but I didn't want to send it to scotty since it would cost me more than the club is worth and it would take 5 weeks!

I have an early '70s Ping putter that needs to be refurbished but I think it is brass. I'm wondering if soaking in coke over night would harm it, any thoughts?

Does your putter have dings/dents or are you just wanting to shine it up? I have a brass beer tap and when I want it to be shiny I use a product called "braso" and it cleans up fairly nice. I have also seen where CLR for 5-10 minutes and then buff it to shine it. Hope that helps! Here are the results from last night! I think it turned out great! Took off 2/1000 of an inch. New groovings Sanded down a deep scratch Smoothed out the topline

I really like the paint fill...  Looks brand new again.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I haven't finished it yet...I ordered some gun bluing liquid yesterday. I really like the raw finish though. I wonder if there is anyway to protect it with some kind of clear coat?

So I took some pictures of after I got it completed sanded down and looking really shiny! Here is the first coat of gun blue. Pretty cool stuff! Put on about 4-5 coats. Here is my first attempt at filling in the paint...terrible attempt haha...I wasn't sure how to do it at first. My plan was to clean it up afterwards. The paint was on too thick so I just stripped it all. I then used a toothpick to infill the paint. Then used a q-tip with acetone to clean it up. Then sprayed the head with a clear coat. I think it turned out surprisingly well considering how impatient I am! After cleaning it up... Finished product :-)

      Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.

      Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
