2013 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Discussion Thread

40 posts in this topic

This is one of my favorite tournaments that unfortunately gets overlooked because its right after the Masters (yes the Masters is over now people). Maybe I'm partial because I've been there and I love the course and the area. Shotmaking not length counts here, and the setting is perfect. My pick is Luke Donald. Who ya got?

Attended the Heritage a couple of times. Beautiful setting, nice course layout.

I'll go with Snedeker.

Brandt Snedeker trying to get over the Masters loss

Quote:

“Sunday night was tough,” said Snedeker, three days removed from a final-round 75 that dropped him from a share of the lead into a sixth-place finish at the Masters. “Anytime you have a chance to win a major championship and you don't do it, especially the Masters, my kind of favorite tournament, a tournament I'd give my whole career to win, it’s tough.

“If it's not tough, then I need to find another job.”

Snedeker’s job this week is the RBC Heritage, which is about as much therapeutic treatment as he could ask for.

For one, Harbour Town Golf Links and the surrounding area is as laid back as it gets. For another, he’s won here before, having beaten Luke Donald in a playoff two years ago.

It also beats the alternative of sitting around and listening to talking heads dissect every moment of every minute of last week’s Masters.

“You kind of turn a blind eye to it,” Snedeker said. “You don’t seek out the Golf Channel.

“(Being here) definitely gets it out of my mind. I did a lot of great stuff last week, but I need to get my head around what I need to do to play well.”

Ted Potter Jr. He's from the same town I live in and he and my son played on the same high school team.

Pretty good field - better than usual at the Heritage. Lots of big names came over from Augusta.

Brian Davis is in the lead after day 1. He won here in 2010 too.

Remember he lost in a playoff to Furyk that year after taking a penalty on the first playoff hole (moving loose impediments in a hazard)?

Edit : Spelled "loose" wrong. I was just so eager to correct Jamo

 Doy! I remembered he was involved with something like that, looked at his Wikipedia page, saw the title of the tournament, and assumed he had won. Guess I should have realized it was under lost playoffs.

Wow - what a difference a week makes. Not much discussion about this week's tour event. Not a major, no Tiger, no Phil, no Rory. No Guan. No interest?

Massive Masters hangover! I'll be honest, I've never taken much notice of the RBC in the past because of the Masters. Watched yesterday and it looks a beautiful course. Agree that Lukey D will do well, it looks like a course where you need to be epic around the greens, will suit him to the ground. He struggled a little yesterday, but seems to be back on the ball today. Would like to see JD-ier do well.

Watching a few minutes of round two: there's some ugly golf being played there (Leishman jailed in the trees, hitting over port-o-johns and concession tents....ended up hitting over people and hit a lady who's now spread eagled out - but has a signed glove to show for it)......Brian Davis chunking pitch shots into sand trap, Snedeker probably missing the cut, Carl Pettersson shooting a 39 on the frontside........

Then there's Streelman....Seriously.

They suspended play right before Parnevik could hit his par putt on 18. Because of this, it's still unsure if the cut will be at +1 or +2, about 15 guys will have to wait until tommorrow to see, if he makes that putt. These 15 players really will be pissed if Parnevik makes that putt in the morning.

Bad timing right there...

"Seriously?" Haha. If he wins we'll get to hear all about Jesus again.

Well he makes the cut either way right? And he's probably not winning anyway ... Maybe bring some goodwill his way from those 15 guys if he just lags it up there in the morning. ;)

    • Didn't know if I could mention it by name, but we know who. Many people share this experience. They promise a check instead of credit to use. Send in my clubs 2 months ago. They were accepted and approved 6 weeks ago. I emailed about the check 2 weeks ago. "Oh, it's on the way tomorrow".  I will call tomorrow.  However, they either have a cash flow problem, or they wait to sell your clubs before paying you out.  Said to see because the umbrella companies are awesome. Just be honest and tell me it may take two months
    • Here in USA, the KBS Tour S-flex shafts go for about $27 each new. If you get AP2 714 model, a 4-PW (?) reshaft would require $189 + tax to get shafts. Add $15 per club for shaft swap, and $10 per for new grips, and it's about $365 + tax. The KBS Tour stiff would be a few grams lighter and slightly stiffer than the S300 which often come as stock for the AP2. OTH is on target, consider this too.
    • I had a big long post going and lost it. The game of golf has only one set of rules per continent. The equipment used is well defined as far as legal, or illegal. The other sports you mentioned are dealing more with different age groups, physical sizes, and skill levels. Sure, golf has players of all ages, sizes, and skill levels too. Golf also has one set of rules, and one playing field with differences in length. Difference is baseball has tee ball. Football has different leagues based on age groups, and it's the same  for basketball. These sports cater to the needs of their players based on their age groups, and skill levels. This also includes the playing fields, and equipment they use. So in that respect I have no problem with what other sports are doing.
    • 2/23: Feeling encouraged. I think I've got the (worse than usual) weight-shift/head movement mystery solved, or at least "identified" with a much better understanding of it (and a confirmation that it's always been there ). Getting better at the process I think...(1) noticing a problem but not knowing the why, (2) Slowing down and checking keys 1-3, and (3) "going back to my first lesson" so to speak by reviewing old video and my swing posts, and slowly "backing up" from the problem to try and identify the (chain of) cause(s). Today's practice: 10 minutes of good ol' wall drill, with original focus of getting my right hip away from the wall but with added attention paid to my upper body and (actually getting some) secondary axis tilt. Several slow and medium-speed reps of this pausing for feel and thinking about and practicing how I'd transition into the downswing. Then 6-8 minutes outside... Just two "reps" of 3-4 minutes slow-motion back- and downswings (hip, axis tilt, weight shift (and resulting proper better club path ) and then an easy-swing full shot with my 56o. So I only hit two shots and both were perfect, high draws.
    • Cobra Bio Cell + set at 15 degrees I am very confident with this club.  My 4 iron goes about 190 and my 3h goes 200-210.  Anything more than that (in the 220-230 range) is this club.  I have hit some very accurate shots with it and feel very comfortable with it.  In the first round this season, I have plopped one from 225 out within 15 feet from the pin.  I may change my driver this year but I get the feeling this club along with my hybrid (also a Bio Cell +) will be around for a long time
