Well then that wouldn't be accurate for my handicap then...... If I were only giving myself 1/4 ratings on everything then my score would correlate to a much higher handicap then I have......

I'm pretty sure it changes day to day and gets better mid-round or possibly diminishes. For example, I think that on Monday my keys were about 1.7, yesterday 1.2 (or maybe it was just my ball striking that was horrid), and Sunday closer to 1.6. If I average them then I get about 1.43 which correlates pretty well with my HC.

My guess is that you are probably better than 1.5, but on the day you filmed your swings maybe less?

I really wish there was an application that would rate keys, then we could track them and our progress.

You said 2.95 and 9.8, did you not?

2 keys is a 9 index. So it puts you closer to your projected handicap.

What is the difference between actual handicap and projected handicap?

Well...I was looking at the my other scores through your lens and saying if I am 1/4 on key 1 then I must only be 1/4 on 2 and 1/4 3.

If I was accurate with my score on 2 and 3 then I'm ok with that....

Key #1: Steady Head - 0.25

Key #2: Weight Forward - 0.50

Key #3: Inline Impact - 0.25

Key #4: Diagonal Sweetspot Path - 0.25

Key #5: Clubface Control - N/A

My total would be 1.25, plus or minus 0.25 at any given round.

More than 1.5 year and some swing lessons later, and using video to capture my swing, my reassessment is

Key #3: Inline Impact - 0.5

Key #4: Diagonal Sweetspot Path - 0

Key #5: Clubface Control - 0

If we go by my Game Golf handicap, I'm a 17. GHIN has me at 20.9.

Videos show my head steady. I've got Key 1. It stays inside the box.

Key 2: 0.25 - I get my weight forward in the proper manner about 25% of the time. When I do, good things happen. When I don't very bad things happen. Very bad things.

Key 3: Right now it's about a 0. I have a case of the "s" word.

Key 4: Diagnonal sweet spot - 1 - lol - except it's going too diagonal. I'm hitting hosel rockets. I need to find out why. Lesson time. So it's really a 0.

Key 5: Clubface control: - 0 - I can hit a hook but not a fade.

Key #1: Steady Head

My Score: 0.5

It no longer really moves left or right, but there's a bit more downward movement than I'd like during the downswing. Could be better.

Key #2: Weight Forward

My Score: 0.5

I never thought this was an issue until recently, when Brian's got me focusing more on how I get into the finish, which I guess is related to this.

Key #3: Inline Impact

My Score: 0.75

Don't think this has ever really been a problem, but I'm reluctant to say I've nailed something as I'm sure there's bits to improve.

Key #4: Diagonal Sweetspot Path

My Score: 0

Getting better, but nowhere near mastered.

Key #5: Clubface Control

My Score: 0

Nope, not happy with this either!

Total: 1.75

My handicap index: 11.9

A pretty much spot-on, if slightly depressing review.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
