Especially the ones in Canada.  I kind of scratched my head at that one too.

What exactly do you not get? Is that some sort of slight against Canadians?

that may in part be true, but I think the vast majority of people associate them with the rapper culture

Oh, so it's a cultural thing.  I guess it makes more sense to me why I don't get the disgust then.

I thought it was just me that thought they looked ridiculous! When I see them I always imagine the wearer with the complimentary thick gold chain and baggy jeans! They look bad enough when worn perfectly straight but should you wish to look extra dopey just tilt them in any direction!

Yup, now I definitely see what's going on.

You know what looks a lot worse than a flat-billed hat?

- dudes who still wear polo shirts that are 2 sizes too big with the sleeves past their elbows;

- pleated anything;

- khakis that look like hammer pants with the cuffs bunched up 10x around their ankles;

- high socks with shorts;

- fat guys with their guts hanging over their belts.

I don't have much of an opinion on flat-billed caps, but I think all of the above are way worse.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
