Thanks.. You don't work for them by any chance do ya?

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Was that directed at me?  I'm part of Golf Evolution/5 Simple Keys but not doing Evolvrs right now.  The guys on there do great work, highly recommend them.

They do great work.[/quote] For the record everyone, I am sure the guys at evolvr do great work.. I think it's fair that it is tough to get people to look at your swing seriously when they are not paid for it. When I am ready i will go ahead and sign up. Thanks

Finally I got to record my Driver swing with my new R1.  I'm not sure if I like the sound of the ball coming off of it like I did with my older TM R5, but I think I'll get used to it.

FRONTVIEW

DTL - 9.5 LOFT

DTL - 11 LOFT

I haven't tried it on the range, but I think the 11 Loft will probably give me better result, I already know that I have a low attack angle as I was hitting it at about 9.5 to 10 when it should be around 13 I think from what I remember.  Anyway, your thoughts are welcome if any.

Thanks

I just can't stand the fact that I have not been able to control my slice / push slice w/driver

This is as frustrating as golf gets!  I just hope I don't come to the point where I just say screw it, no need for Driver in bag anymore.. I know it's extreme, but it's that frustrating!

Played again for the first time in like 3 weeks and this is what I found out.

1.  I shot a 35 on par 29 front 9 - (I took 1 muli)

2.  I hit my 7 iron about 165 yards

3.  I hit my 5 Iron about 185 Yards

4.  I hit my 9 Iron about 150 Yards

5.  I kept coming up short with my sandwedge to the front of all the greens pretty much when I was 100 Yards in.. So I'm thinking that I am only hitting them about 90 - 95 yards with a very high trajectory (56 Degree)

6.  I hit my 17 degree 3 hybrid about 225 yards and missed a 10 foot birdi or so

7.  I had 1 (4 putt) that killed my score

8.  I only had 1 up and down and I think that means I really need to practice on my chipping closer to the hole

9.  My driving really needs some very bad tweaking.. if I can get that figured out I think I might really start enjoying the game.

This was just at this little course here: http://www.littleharborcountryclub.com/

Went to the range and was able to put together a very good hitting day with all of my clubs except my driver.

Although, towards the end I did finally start hitting my driver straight again.  This only happened when I started having the swing thought of making a full shoulder turn.  There are two things that happened when I did this IMO.  1.  I felt like I wasn't hitting the ball as far as I could with the piercing ball flight that I see with all my other clubs and I think this is because I might be overdoing the shoulder turn.  2.  I probably casted the club and this could be the reason for the lost distance?

I guess my question is why is it the case that I don't need to have any swing thoughts with any of my other clubs, including my 17* 3H which I hit straight or with a slight draw each time, but when I make the same exact swing with my driver it's a pushslice all the way?  I know that I was hitting my driver nice before, and I guess I should just be happy that I finally feel that I have full control over all of my clubs (for the first time ever) except my driver of course.  Maybe I should just get a shorter driver?  44 inches?  I am sure I will loose some distance compared to the 45 inches I have now, but maybe knowing I can hit it straight every time is worth it?

I'm no expert, but IMO your driver issues are path related. If you watch the video, your clubhead comes at the ball from the right of it, an out to in path. Your head moves back quite a bit in the backswing, which inhibits your ability to get your weight forward. You need to work on a centered pivot, there's a good thread on that here http://thesandtrap.com/t/54540/a-centered-pivot . A feel that has worked for me in the past is to feel like I'm keeping my weight on my left foot during the backswing.

You can mess around with a shorter driver if you'd like. I don't believe you'd lose much distance (if at all) from the shorter driver from what others have experienced, but I don't think it's the panacea you are looking for. If you're willing to put in the work, I think improving your swing will yield greater long term benefits.

Like Ernest...a good local pro in the offseason might do wonders for you. Most of the alignment and grip changes they might make can be done in your warm living room in the upcoming cold months. Things like that can really take u a long way in your golf game..

Like working on the swing,,score means nothing to me. Might just go to the range and give up playing... ( might happen)

Dear Billchao,

I want to thank you for your comment and for the link you provided.  I worked on making sure my shoulder goes down and not down and across/up and I have been hitting with just wiffle balls today and my ball flight now is always a draw, not many went straight, but I'm assuming that's because the wiffle ball takes more spin than a regular ball and thus the drawish hookish ball flight.  I can't wait to take this to the range, but again I want to thank you for your comment.

You're welcome. Don't take the flight of wiffle balls as indicative of your true ball flight. They're unreliable at best, and the wind blows them everywhere. Just work on the feels. You don't even need to swing a club to practice them.

I see what you are saying about the wiffle ball flight, but at the very least I know for sure the spin being put on the ball... That really is what is very important to me!

What I just don't get though, is why is it that I have to pay so much attention to this issue with my driver, when I'm not even thinking about it nor considering it with my other clubs, and now I am hitting all my clubs the best I have ever hit them with piercing ball flight with a very slight almost non existent draw! that goes straight!

Could it be because I am over swinging because I feel like I want to blast the ball?  Although, I try to blast the ball with the 3H which I hit nice as well?  I will just keep working on my full shoulder turn, but should my shoulder be pointing at the ball or just staying on the same plane that I am at address?

From down the line?  You turn about 90* to your address inclination.

What mvmac said, however, thinking and feeling like you point your left shoulder at the ball can really help with turning on an incline. Try it with a camera and see what it looks like and then just play with the feel until you get the right amount in the video.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
