I'm going to look at the course layout and make sure I have the right clubs for the par 3's, but something like:  Driver, 4-hybrid, 6-iron, 8-iron, GW, SW, putter.

That's a lot of clubs.  I play 3-club 9-hole screw around rounds with my buddy and our kids periodically (there are several threads about doing that for those that care to search......)  I probably don't lose more than a few strokes per nine with 3 clubs.  7 isn't really all that different from a full bag.......

In David's bag....

Driver: Titleist 910 D-3;  9.5* Diamana Kai'li
3-Wood: Titleist 910F;  15* Diamana Kai'li
Hybrids: Titleist 910H 19* and 21* Diamana Kai'li
Irons: Titleist 695cb 5-Pw

Wedges: Scratch 51-11 TNC grind, Vokey SM-5's;  56-14 F grind and 60-11 K grind
Putter: Scotty Cameron Kombi S
Ball: ProV1

DR - 12 degrees.  Not a big hitter, only about 190 avg.  Thought about 3W, which I can hit about the same, but it's less consistent off the tee, and I don't hit it well off the fairway, either.

5W - 18 degrees.  My best most consistent club, so it had to be included.  Will use it a lot, many of the tee shots, and anything in the fairway from more than about 140 yards.

4H - 23 degrees.  Nice to have a rescue club, and I hit woods better than long irons anyway.

8I - 38 degrees.   Thought about 7i here, but I'm a little more comfortable with the 8 anyway.

PW - 45 degrees.  Pretty essential.

LW - 60 degrees.  I probably chip more with this than the PW.  Maybe it's from playing those really cheap balls, but I need the extra loft to get good spin and really stick them close to the hole.

Putter .

- I use Driver and Putter on almost every hole

- I need something in the 200 yard range - 4h (I can give up my other hybrid and fairway woods now - though it does leave a big gap in the 'non-scoring' range)

- Sand wedge is used more than any remaining club - chips and pitches and trouble and sand - covers anything less than 100 yards too

- 9i for chipping that requires a bit more roll than chipping with the SW (also will cover the short gap 135 yards full swing down to 90 -3/4 swing- or so left with an almost full SW)

- That leaves 2 irons to fill in the 120 to 200 range

Dr (280) -......   or     (3w (250/260) is a good swap if course is tighter)

4h (up to 190 - 210)

6i (175 typ)

8i (150 typ)

9i (90 - 135)

SW (< 90)

Putter

A little choking and partial swings goes a long ways to cover the gaps.  This would be a fun experiment regardless.

4 clubs?  4h, 7i, SW, Putter  (even more fun)

I rarely hit my driver so i could lose that one - may round may get better if i do that anyway

so for me it would be

3-wood - i can still crush this one 280+

4- iron - get it out there around 250 if i have a tight fairway and i step on it

6 iron - never leave home without it - 6 iron is the new 7-iron

8-iron - great 165 club and i can work it pretty well

9-iron - can bump if the lie is too tight to pull a wedge and need a strong short iron

sw - great the greens and what if i do land in the sand

putter - evil but i have to have it

On a good day, thats about all I swing, anyway.  Just replace the hybrid with the driver.

I have a 20* HB other then that I could go with the same set up.

3 Wood, 4 Hybrid, 6I, 9I, GW, SW, Putter.

My biggest gap would be between my 6 iron, which goes 175 and my 9 iron which goes 145. In those cases, I would choke down, and/or decide based on where the "correct" miss is. I love carrying two wedges and the benefit to carrying both a gap and sand wedge outweighs the 30 yard difference between the mid irons.

Let's see.

Driver, SW, putter. That's three. So I have to gap four clubs in there? Okay.

Hybrid, 9I.

7I, 5I.

All done.

3W, 21 hybrid, 5i, 7i, 9i, W, putter

My 3W is more reliable than my driver, and it can be used readily for more than tee shots.

21 degree hybrid because I hit this pretty solidly.

5i gets me approach distances

7i comfortable club

9i is my second easiest to hit club, at the moment

W is my easiest to hit club and I can always hit it down, since I only hit it 105 yards anyway, and can be used as a SW

I think this would be a good spread for me and playing the standard white tees.

For me, 3W, 3I Utility, 5I, 8I, PW, SW, Putter.

I hit my 3 wood more consistently than my driver and can hit it 240-250. I'll pretty much just choke up on the longer iron if I'm in between clubs.

Ryan

No putter.   I can putt fairly well with 3 iron.  Besides, I need a good excuse after a poor round -  "hey, I didn't bring my putter."

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
