Also Dave and Erik on the Open Forum panel talking about the stats revolution in golf.

Erik has to learn to stop talking so much and let other people speak. ;-)

@Unforgiven93 , At your level, I think it will help fine tune your game and give you a little different perspective.  If you read it, it would be helpful if you let us know how you liked it and what you got out of it.

I know this was a long time ago, but I did finally get the book about a week ago. Pretty busy with school, so I'm only halfway through, but I will certainly let you guys know what I think when I finish it. So far it has confirmed a lot of my beliefs. There have been several moments when I have wanted to yell "I KNEW IT!!" to conclusions the authors have come to. I'm going to make my dad (swing coach?) and my high school coach read it so I can say I told you so.

When you do finish, post your thoughts here if possible:

Or here:

I'm hoping this thread kind of peters out… it was sort of the "pre-launch" thread.

Would be super fast for me, getting into cardio fast :-P . If I am at the range practicing a small bucket would last more than an hour. Usually don't even finish it.
I think it depends on how and what you're practicing.  My comments were referring to the speed he was going through balls in the videos not the statement Drew quoted.  I probably average closer to 2 minutes per ball when I'm doing a focused practice.
Wow, yes I guess if I was working on something specific that makes sense, just can't imagine spending 3.5 hours on the range. Wish I could but can't imagine doing it. I usually get a large bucket, 100 balls or so, and I'm done in 45 min, then I pitch and chip for 15 min (never putt at the range). Feel like I'm taking my time but I don't do slow motion and stuff. I practice poorly too I guess. Generally just trying to find a groove out there, try to shape and adjust traj and stuff but that doesn't take me a minute a shot. It's interesting the different ways we get it done.

Nobody would tell you to hit 100 balls (and take 200 minutes to do so).

Hitting 20 balls properly often does more to change your swing than 100 balls hit improperly.

That's not "practice" the way it's being used here.

You're not really going to change much of anything doing that.

Yes, practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice does. I agree.

I don't hit 100 balls, I usually get a small bucket (40 balls) which takes about 90 minutes total.  If my handicap was 9.2 I'd be doing what you're doing.

It depends on what you want from practice too. If you're working to get better or just hitting balls. Some golfers are content to play golf and enjoy the shots they hit better than the others. That's cool.

Well, I wouldn't characterize myself quite so casual. I just improve differently; for me I need reps, the mechanical stuff doesn't work. Hcap is on the way back down after a weird 2014. I expect to be back in the 6's by summer. Not trying to become scratch. Different ways to skin a cat.

And you can get to a 6 doing that. Heck, I got to a 1.4 or so.

But that was the ceiling (or floor, depending on how you want to look at it), and I regret the extra time I spent "baking in" a swing that needed some moderate to significant changes to break through that ceiling/floor.

But you aren't really practicing. You're just "baking in."

100% agree with this.

I got my handicap down to about a 10 on my own. After working on keys 1-3 I got down to a 6. Now I am working on new stuff hopefully I can get that lower. I was stuck at a 10 handicap for a couple of years. I had some serious swing faults that needed some fixing. All my playing and practicing just made me good at being a 10 handicap player.

I agree, I was referring more to how much work I have ahead of me to get to 9.2.  At a 9.2 I'd hope going to the range to just hit balls would cause less of a setback than it would where I'm at now.

I enjoy practicing the way I do now because I feel it has a purpose and I'm seeing improvement but I do get a lot of weird looks.

I hear that and I have far from a perfect swing but it is mine and I generally know how to fix it. Recently it took a 5 month layoff, to get out of my own head. I'm crunching the ball again which is a helluva relief cuz I thought that ability was gone. Now I just need reps to start scoring - 82 on Sun which I would have been OK with even when I was in the 5s. Lipped a bunch of putts and still no driver. So, I am seeing progress. You have more natural ability than I if you can get to a 1.4, I know I will never get that good and I'm ok with it. If I'm in the 5-7 range, I'm pleased. FYI, I am conscious of the overall purpose of this site so I don't talk about my own game much out in the other threads as my approach is counter-intuitive to LSW. I think it's a great approach and I know I apply many of the principles in my game, I just don't fully subscribe to it in the literal sense.

I'm on my phone so just a few quick thoughts. 1. As I said if you are content to be a six, I have zero issues with what you're doing. If you want to break through that ceiling, you would want to practice more properly. 2. The purpose of this site is to discuss all things related to golf. Despite what a few trolls and miscreants think, I encourage discussion and disagreement. In that vein, what do you disagree with in LSW?

I don't think there are any principles with which I disagree relative to the golf swing. I just don't follow the literal path and a lot of the technical stuff goes over my head. So, I don't talk about my approach much cuz I know it's different than what you're trying to teach here and I will almost never offer advice cuz I don't know enough about LSW nor the golf swing in general, only what works for me. I've never even clicked into a My Swing thread, for example.

You should read it. Not a book about how to swing a club

The book isn't about the golf swing. Very, very little of Lowest Score Wins is about the golf swing.

I just don't follow the literal path and a lot of the technical stuff goes over my head.

I don't know what "the literal path" stuff means. What path?

So, I don't talk about my approach much cuz I know it's different than what you're trying to teach here

If your approach varies from what I teach, your approach is… not good. I don't know how to say that very well, but 5 Simple Keys® are "right" because they're what all the best players do. I suspect your approach is a good one, and thus, it aligns with my approach and "what I'm trying to teach here" as well. It's tough to be a 9 or a 6 without applying the Keys.

Also, again, Lowest Score Wins is NOT a book about the golf swing or technique. You've completely missed the boat on that if you think that's what it's about.

I will almost never offer advice cuz I don't know enough about LSW nor the golf swing in general, only what works for me. I've never even clicked into a My Swing thread, for example.

You're missing out. You are almost the type of person who would benefit most from Lowest Score Wins.

Buy today and it'll ship tomorrow.
