Yup, no more provisional balls, except when needed (which some were needed at this last outing).

Can we change the date to "Operation-Single-Digits-2016"?

Is this operation still operational? Kyle is your goal to get down to single digits,

Why are you and Lihu asking? By asking you suggest his hcp is'nt legit. Hitting 5 greens on a misty round is ok, hitting only 3 fairways is not for his handicap.

I actually had forgotten what the point of this thread was lol...I'm pretty sure OP was like 13 or 14 when he started and now he's at 11? So he must be playing well and trying to get below 10. Must be nice haha

You can name the thread whatever you want. My index updated on the 15th to 11.9. You can call it single digits or operation nimrod I don't mind lol. I'll just keep posting how I'm doing

I'm sorry please explain how my question suggests that his hcp isn't legit? Then again, you can think what you like!

Agree. 5 GIR isn't bad at all. You can absolutely play into single digits with that!

5 GIR is ok for that one bad round.  3 Fairways is kind of bad. Does the OP use the driver on every single hole?  I'll usually switch to a 3W or hybrid if I am having problems like that.

I am on a similar journey.  I practice every single day, in a golf dome (Chicago...), 20 min full swing, 20min pitch/chip and 30 min putting.  Just got back from a golf trip to Cali, broke 80 for the first time, twice!!  Now just waiting for the snow to be gone and should reach singles by May or so.  I have never played in any tournaments, never felt ready, but might try it this summer.  Good luck to both of us. :)

Since you bring it up, how about a quick little "Did You Know?"  (I just learned this a couple fo weeks ago and it cracked me up)

Did you know that the original Nimrod was:

" Nimrod, king of Shinar , was, according to the Book of Genesis and Books of Chronicles , the son of Cush and great-grandson of Noah . He is depicted in the Tanakh as a man of power in the earth, and a mighty hunter. Extra-biblical traditions associating him with the Tower of Babel led to his reputation as a king who was rebellious against God."

Now here is the good part:

"In 15th-century English, "Nimrod" had come to mean "tyrant". Coined in 20th-century American English , the term is now commonly used to mean "dimwitted or stupid fellow", a usage first recorded in 1932 and popularized by the cartoon character Bugs Bunny , who sarcastically refers to the hunter Elmer Fudd as "nimrod", possibly as an ironic connection between "mighty hunter" and "poor little Nimrod", i.e. Fudd. "

Anyways, back on topic ...

Yup.  Certainly not ideal, but I hit 5 green in both of my rounds this weekend.  Shot 82 both times, and both scores are going towards LOWERING my 8.9 handicap by 1/2 stroke.

LOLOL! Congrats on breaking 12! It's funny how polarizing this thread is. You're a good sport for sticking with it.

Warning: :offtopic: Hey Kyle, if you have time to answer this, what are your favorite courses to play in Orange County (or surrounding areas)? Seems like you play a lot of nice ones . . . just looking to expand my horizons.

I hit more fairways on a bad day, and my WIP handicap is around the mid-high teens.

But I am not questioning Kyle, I just wanted a more realistic time frame for him to be able to do it.

@Lihu ... ALL of our handicaps are "works in progress."  Everybody is trying to get better one way or another and bring it down.  There is always still a number though ;-)

Yeah, but mine would be lower than it should be if I take out half the rounds. It is chaotic in the sense that there are two local averages which are far too "observable" for my liking.

I just feel like if I could be more solid with the keys on the course. . .

Your handicap should be exactly what it should be, given your potential, provided that you play by the rules and calculate it properly. I don't like mine, but it's mine, so I post it. You should, too.

Exactly my point.

Every single one of us (USGA people, at least) have the same issues.  If I got to count all 20 of my rounds instead of just 10, or only the top 5, guess what?  My handicap would be a lot higher or lower than it "should" be too.

It is what it is.  Post it.  Be proud of it.  Keep working to lower it.

Well, no need for me to calculate my handicap. I just got a moderated one of 17.3, which is actually pretty close.

Not sure how it got calculated. :hmm:
