Great thread.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a minimum frequency of play for using this system, in order to get any real value from it?

Seems like you'd have to be at least someone who averages more than 1 rd/month, maybe even closer to 1/wk, in order to get benefits from this kind of stat tracking.

New user, so I might be wrong, but I think larger sample sizes are more meaningful.  I thought the trends it showed in my first few rounds didn't feel right.  I'm not using it to guide practice just yet though.

Oh, my previous complaint about them not recognizing an alternate green on my home course?  They fixed it within 24 hours of my email to them. :-)

On a Sunday.

Yup.  Every time I've hit a glitch or an issue with GG, their customer service (tech support) has been fantastic.

On average, how long does it take for a round that was recorded without being paired with the phone to sync to the site?

I played nine holes last night -- literally played the last hole, a par 5, with the sun setting and the pin already collected by the maintenance crew.  I tagged my shots, but ran out of power at some point on the ninth hole (I know I tagged my tee shot).

Syncing now with my phone, it says I have eight rounds in there.  I've signed for six, there might be a phantom round too,  or something I'm just plain forgetting, or a round twice, and last night could be the eighth.

I'm not too worried, because I'm sure this will show up eventually.  I think this system will motivate me to play more nine hold practice rounds (there are two regulation nine hole courses near me), partly to keep in golf mode when time won't permit 18, and partly to get more shots entered in to the system for a better sample size.

Another question:  how does the system work for practice rounds?  I knew I wasn't playing "for a score" yesterday, and in a few instances, hit two balls (I was last off the first tee, so I didn't hold anyone up).  I tagged my first shot from each location, deciding to tag what I thought the "right shot" to hit there was.  For example, 75-80 yards out, pin in the middle, I hit half a 9-iron (preferred shot), but dropped a ball and then hit a full sand wedge to see how they came out.  I can't tag the latter shot I think...

I've never had it be anything but immediate. I plug the device in, it imports and "builds" my round, and then I go to the website to edit and publish it. That also deletes the round on the device.

You're syncing entirely with your phone, and then… what… editing on your computer after the round syncs via the phone?

I don't know how that all works. The only times I've used my phone it's just to sync the current round. I'll "end" the round, which syncs it right away. I don't try to sync up a backlog of rounds.

If you want to do that sort of thing, just tag the first one and move on. It's like someone who hits a driver OB: they don't have to tag again, they can just keep the first "tag" and add +2 penalty strokes.

Yep;  device to phone to site and work there.  I can connect it to my computer via USB and it charges, but it doesn't show up as something I can interact with.  I'm about due to get myself a new computer anyway and I will keep a Windows piece available to me so I can do what you're describing.

... and now my phone says there are nine logs on the device.  I hope there's a tenth when I get back from my round (heading out now).

Me too.  I didn't even know you could connect it to your computer.  The instructions that came with the device and the website imply you are supposed to use it with the app.  Do you need special software?

I'd like to try it this way because the app just seems to suck.  It only correctly displays about half my rounds and the other times it outputs garbage.  i.e. 70 strokes on the first hole of a neighboring course.  Today I checked it on hole 3 and it had only recorded one shot -- the tee shot on the first hole with a G-tec driver.  I don't even have a G-tec driver nor did I list it as one of my clubs.

Is there some way to recover a round if you've tagged it the whole way through and the app doesn't work?

I almost never use it with my phone.

See what you get when you plug it into your computer.

Okay, well, it would be nice if their app worked with Linux.  Note to self:  try with WINE at some point.

But... in the past hour, I managed to get my hands on a Windows device and used that to upload.  Despite my device saying there were eleven rounds on there, I got 6 uploaded.  Four of which I already had, all from the era when I used my phone... so I guess before deleting I'll compare to the shots I added manually for two of them.

Plus yesterday's round and today's.

So I'm a happy camper.  Going to review, sign, and then figure out what I'm doing before tomorrow's round!

Yes, but be reasonable… nobody uses Linux on the desktop. ;-) You know this… :-D

You know what I mean by "Linux on the desktop." It means "not as a web server." :-)

P.S. Your @ mention didn't work.

After reading this thread and others, I bought GG Live last week.  Messed around with it a bit in a couples scramble yesterday afternoon.  More than anything, I'm hoping to get more consistent yardages for my clubs and also see if I'm regularly missing shots left or right.  Hoping to get 4 or 5 rounds on it this week to build some data.

Congrats John. Take care to edit your rounds afterward (you'll enjoy doing it and get very fast at it). Good data in, good data out.

When you sign a scramble round you should unselect under the gear icon the default that includes the round in your stats.  A scramble will mess up your stats (unless you always played your own ball in which case you need a new partner ;-))

    • Have a 19° (moved to 20.5°) Titleist 915H. I just love the club. Beautiful feel off the sweetspot, high launch, soft landing. Versatile. In the future, with less overall speed I will replace my 4 and 5 irons with another hybrid, something around 26°.
    • Broke the head of a Stealth Plus on a warm up. TaylorMade send me a new head but I decided to upgrade it to the new IQ10 LS and pay the difference. While I was waiting for the 8° head to arrive at the store I messed around with all the multi brand putts they had available. I instantly liked a black TaylorMade Spider, not the new one but very similar. The weight felt perfect. Big line in the middle for easy alignment. I was playing and old Zebra so the change in technology and feel was huge. Fast review of both clubs.. Driver QI10 LS. I always hit to ball up in the sky. I was playing the stealth at 7° with a 60g X low flight shaft and I was still hitting it pretty high. With the QI10 playing it at 6° now is almost hard for me to hit it high, with the same shaft the ball comes out lower and with less spin. so I'm really happy with the change. Putter Spider. I love it. It took me an afternoon to figure out how to grip it (it comes with a superStroke grip) but after that it all came into place. More stable on short putts and a good weight to swing smoothly on long putts and with added forgiveness over my old zebra.
    • I have a 2h but we don’t get along anymore. It’s a bit of an abusive relationship - she gives me just enough hope once in a while that things are going to be better and then it’s back to the same old shit. I went to a PING fitting recently with the intention to replace the hybrid with a 5w or something, thinking maybe I’ll be better with a fairway wood than a hybrid. But it turns out the best club I hit that fits in that slot in the bag is another hybrid so I ordered it.
    • Day 547, May 2, 2024 18 holes with @DrizZzY using my TruStick®. Hit a LOT of really good shots today.
    • Not the last thing I bought or bought anything at all but Sun Day Red stuff seems a bit overpriced for it essentially being rebranded Nike apparel. I'm hearing the resale prices are wild though. Either way, I highly doubt I will indulge as I'm not much of a brand guy or a collector. But to keep up my super nice guy image have never turned down a gift though 😇 Tiger doesn't seem to sell stuff like MJ or Kanye did.
