Tipping the Beer Cart girl

It's not tipping I believe in, it's overtipping.  I'm a big proponent of the idea that that extra dollar or 2 will do her more good than it will do me.

Yep.  I buy $7 worth, giver her a ten and say "That's good".   Or even $3.50 and give her a $5.  I don't buy that much anyway, so it doesn't seem that hard to tip a bit higher than I might in other circumstances.  I certainly don't sit there and calculate out 15% or 20%, then count it out to the penny.  If I was spending $100 it might be different.

Yeah, for decent service anywhere I'm an over tipper. It's nice when people smile and remember you and what you're drinking. I remember a trip to Cuba where I met these people from France at the bar, they were complaining about how bad the service was, I was surprised because the bar guys would bring me drinks at the pool without me even asking. Then I found out these guys weren't tipping. I suggested they start tipping and they retorted, rather prissily, "but it's supposed to be all inclusive!" I just smiled and told them to enjoy their stay. Some people will never learn.

Yeah it's quite stupid actually.  All it does is push the service person's wage onto the customer, regardless of how well they actually perform, since many people feel obligated to make up the gap.  I have stopped eating out at restaurants almost entirely because of the tip nonsense.  Which brings up another point... a cart girl doesn't even really do anything to earn a tip.  They don't mix your drink or make your sandwich.. why are they even getting a tip?  Because they're a rolling vending machine?  Who tips a vending machine?  Yeah I'm kidding a little bit but I'm mostly serious.

The worst thing is, it's the big wig at the top of the food chain that benefit the most, because they get to pay their employee less, while making the same on the product.

I did notice in the USA, that the service was very good, so most of the time the tip is deserved any way.

If they did increase employee wage, the price of products would only go up, so you would have to pay more regardless, no way around it now, it is what it is.

In Canada the service industry is taxed automatically on the assumption of a 15% tip so if you don't tip, or drastically under tip, the server could actually be losing money by serving you.

That's the same in the USA, Government automatically taxes 10% on waiters. Not sure about cart girls, were that falls. But at a restaurant, if your not giving 10%, your screwing over the waiter/waitress. The reason being that the waiter/waitresses were under claiming there tips on the taxes, so the government just taxes 10% to make sure they are getting there, i quote, "Fair Share". The liberal who thought of that phrase should be shot.

If they pay the cart girl more, then they are just going to charge more for the golf.  It's not going to change the bottom line.  It's a lot more fair if those who use the service that the beverage cart provides pay a bit extra for that convenience by tipping for good service.

Tipping has been a standard policy practically forever.  I always tip, but I do adjust the tip to reward particularly good service, or to make a statement for particularly bad service.  Not tipping at all makes the server just think you're a jerk.  Deliberately leaving a 5% tip sends a message if the server has any brains at all.  I do dislike the establishments that pool all of the tips together and divide them equally, because that defeats the original purpose of tipping.

I had a similar experience at an all inclusive in Mexico.  My wife and I were on the beach and the poor waiter guy had to hoof a long way with drinks.  There were a lot people not tipping him and some just bossing him around because I guess it made them feel that they were better (and in Mexico a $1 tip goes a long way).  I gave the guy a $20 and said "hey, just bring me drink every time you make a round down here".  He smiled and said thanks for being a good guy.  A few others around me got the same idea and gave him a couple more bills.  After a time everyone started to get pissed at me and a few others because the waiter seem to always plop down two drinks every 20 minutes at our spots and they were made really well.

If she knows I am playing horribly, she will make sure she sees me a 3rd time by the 17th hole so I can down a couple of more before I go in,

That's how I feel about it.  I don't think I would classify myself as an over-tipper when it comes to cart girls; I tip $1-$2 per transaction, which usually is only on a $2-5 purchase.  Proportionally, sure, it's a lot.  But to the lady I'm sure it isn't much.  However, whatever course I'm at, she will often see my group and head that way if she wasn't planning to already.

Being a cart-gal is still a service industry, and you're generally going to get better service if you're tipping well.  And here in hot, sunny Sacramento, seeing the cart girl every 3 holes vs every 9 holes can be a big deal.

Yeah but you would avoid the hassle of maintaining a mental report card on the server and the possible stinkeye from your party members who thought you tipped too little or too much, so overall I think the experience would be more enjoyable.

I didn't say to pay the cart girl more so how about you back that shit up and re-read some posts.  In fact, I said several posts ago that I would rather do away with the cart girl and get a starter or ranger instead.  And if you think the price of golf hasn't gone up because they make the cart girl work for tips you're laughably clueless.

I'm already reluctant to go to restaurants because the value is poor, the tipping nonsense is simply the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is a course I go to regularly that is nearby my house.  The lady that works in the bar (and occasionally the cart) is legitimately hot.  I don't say that often, so trust me she's hot.  Somebody told me she was once a Sacramento Kings dancer/cheerleader, but I can't confirm that.

Anyway, typically (like this past weekend), I'll go in for a snack or a bottle of water before my round or at the turn.  You pay for the snacks at the same register they use the bar/grill for.  When she is working, the seats at the bar will always be taken.  The place is bustling whenever she is in there.  Almost always, the seats at the bar will be full of guys 50+ years old and there will be cash on the table.  They've already paid and left their tips, and just hang around to flirt and wait for their hard-on to wear off I guess.  I once saw a guy who left a $50 tip (IIRC).  I doubt he bought anything more than a few bears and maybe a hamburger.

It makes me think that an escort service could make a lot of money if they sent their girls around golf course clubhouses on weekday evenings.

Given how hard it is to wrestle a bear to the table, it sounds like he was a cheap bastard for only tipping $50.

To each their own on whether to tip or not.  Tipping will exist regardless of what people are paid.
