A 65 or 66 is out there if one of these guys now can get hot. Given kaymer's talent I have a hard time seeing him coming back to the pack too much. Hes not Gil Morgan or Ricky Barnes. Someone is gonna have to meet him at least half way to have a chance.

I agree, if someone at -1 or -2 can come out with a 65/66 in the afternoon, the weekend will become much more interesting. A four stroke lead going into the weekend at the US Open can be spoiled.

I was going to multi-quote the Results Prediction contest Thread with all the "What are you guys thinking, no way the final score will be like -3, -4 or -8 even" comments and just chuckle a bit.  But it's locked of course...

We now know it's certainly possible.

But I'm still early to be poking at it - anything can happen in the next two days...

(Kaymer could melt down 8 or 9 strokes and the course could tighten up considerably,.....then someone can quote this post and chuckle... :-\ )

maybe Graham could make a run, he's out of the box and safely got that first Par 5 out of the way

Didn't someone tell Kaymer that this is is a frickin US Open?! I call for a drug screen. :-)

Somebody better test that water bottle he's been drinking from. We don't want golf turning into the next baseball!

Someone tell the USGA this is the US Open. Too many guys shooting at the flag and sticking shots. I think guys are starting to adjust to the fact this course is not as hard as they thought it would be and birdies are starting to pile up here.

This feels more like the PGA Championship, especially without the thick rough

Well, we're half-way through the second round and the players tied for second place are on -2. That doesn't sound to me like the course is set up too easy.

The more I practise, the luckier I hope to get.

I agree. Just because one guy is having an astounding first two days doesn't mean the course is set up too easy. Kaymer is plain and simply playing out of his ass and in my own opinion, has no where to go but down. I could absolutely be wrong and he could maintain a score well under par, but I don't see him flirting with -10 by Sunday.

agree - one or three players usually do have a stand out tournament.  the question is usually if it maintains long enough for a final standout score or just one or two incredible days....So Kaymer is already on the list for a cool run regardless of how he finishes

Adam Scott made a nice run today

I think the scoring is out there though. One of the reasons why I don't think scoring is better is because this is a completely different course they saw in practice rounds. Some are beginning to figure out you can be more aggressive than you think. Kaymer figured that out late yesterday. Also 15 guys are under par. That's a lot or the 2nd round of an Open. There were 16 under par through 2 rounds in 2011.

That's what I'm thinking. Kaymer seems to be playing in a different dimension.

I agree. Look no further than the 1992 US Open at Pebble Beach where during the 3rd Dr. Gil Morgan became the first player to reach double digits under par in the history of the US Open and eventually got it to -12.  He ended up the tournament at +5 while the eventual winner, Tom Kite, finished at -3.

Martin Kaymer is not Gil Morgan. But trust me, I'm hoping he implodes.

Time to call this guy?

Not again Shooter! If Martin Kaymer was at -2, this US Open would be a lot more interesting, as there is about 8000 guys at -2,-1, and E

He better skip straight to the car, because they'd throw him immediately out if he just did what he did at the tournament with Bob Hope.

I'm really hoping Kaymer collapses, because if he does this tournament gets so much more watchable

    • So, it appears to me that everyone is bringing out some version of the zero-torque, or square to square, or torque balanced, putter.  What ever name you want to give it seems like everyone has one of these types of things in their line up now.  It reminds me of about 10 years ago, when everyone had to have a counter-balanced putter in their line-up.  Callaway Media | Videos, Podcasts, & Episodes | Golf Content The Official source for Callaway golf clubs, golf balls and gear.
