Ahhh, I had heard she was more in the 200-215 area, and iacas had stated 190 up there...so I just figured she was giving up quite a bit of yardage off the tee.

190 could be the carry. She might be getting roll at Pinehurst.

And sorry, @newtogolf , you can't just say stuff like "Stacy Lewis is afraid of getting beat by Li" and then claim that your opinion is as likely as other opinions because "we're all just speculating anyway." Things don't work that way. Especially since I'm not speculating - I'm simply going on what she said, and doubting that your speculation is correct.

P.S. Stacy's currently T1. Li is close to the bottom of those on the course.

P.P.S. Stacy basically said the same thing thousands of people said about Michelle Wie: she should learn to win before moving on and tackling bigger things. In Wie's case it was versus playing against the men, but Michelle was 6' tall and competing against the men is why people said "learn to win." Li is basically "competing against even worse odds - Michelle nearly made the cut against the men. Li will not against women. Against women, Michelle Wie finished top five in several majors at a young age. Wie >>> Li, but if you were to draw parallels, they should be the idea of "learning to win." And that's all Stacy really said.

I thihnk where SL lost me is when she said "If it were my kid, I wouldnt let her play." Well it's not your kid and until you have a child that qualifies for the US Open you cant really say what you would you do. My 3 year old can talk me into almost anything already LOL.

She just won the Porter Cup with a final-round 62 (only score in the 60s that day too).

She also bogeyed two holes in a row now.

LOL ... for some reason seeing her entire name threw me.  I'm like "Who the heck is Sadena Parks?"

And then, I'm like, Duh!!!  Sadena!!!

Good for her.

So Luci Li shot 78. Pretty damn good for an 11 year old. Natalie Gulbis is +8 right now. Me personally I am rooting hard for Porn Phatlum

Yah I almost posted in the BB FL thread, but thought damn- she earned her way to the US Open. I really liked her in BB, so really hoping she plays strong here. She has a habit of fading on the Symetra Tour. Once things go south, it tends to nosedive.

So Luci Li shot 78.

I had the over/under at 81, and I'd have taken the over. I was wrong.

Only 10 players shot worse than her, but only 84 have even gone out yet, so that number should grow to 20-25 or so by the end of the day.

I've seen it said here many times that high-bounce wedges can be used in tight lie situations, but the areas around the greens at #2 are SO tight! Assuming that her wedges are higher bounce, would this be detrimental for her around the greens?

If anything they'll make those shots easier, provide a wider margin for error.

Remember, too, that "bounce" is not just a single number, but how it plays is affected by the camber and sole width as well.

Edel wedges are HIGH bounce, generally speaking, but have shaved heels and toes, and a fairly good camber so that the high bounce area is fairly thin.

Also, the viewing schedule is here: http://www.usopen.com/women/en_US/champ_experience/viewing_schedule.html

3-7pm today and tomorrow on ESPN.

3-6pm Sat/Sun on NBC.

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
