I actually like the face and the bottom. The top though not so much. I wonder what the irons are going to look like.

It would be interesting to see how those things work on the top of the club. I would presume they disrupt the air flow going over the crown of the club to decrease the surface area the air come into contact with, hence lowering the drag. Though I think they look horrible.

Honestly I always wondered why the crown of the club never had more of a dimple pattern. I mean if it works for a golf ball. Of course it would probably break a lot, but just saying. Decrease drag and all.

I never liked how Ping drivers looked on the bottom. Though I really don't care much because it isn't the side I see when I hit the ball.

Also looks like the back weight is offset more towards the heel. Not sure if that is just because how the sole is designed and the weighting makes it neutral. I don't think Ping ever favored draw versus fade with their drivers before. They typically are, "Here is the driver, it is forgiving, it will have decent distance". I always consider them as, what you see is what you get type of thing.

I might hit it, depends on the golf shaft options. If they are sticking with making their own shafts, then I doubt I will hit it. The Ping i25 driver was a horrible club. The shaft was way too flexible, and dull. So I hope they improve on their golf shafts for their drivers.

I think it looks kind of cool.

And the principles behind it are likely fairly sound. You may be able to swing this thing 0.3 MPH faster! :)

:ping: dosen't just do these types of things just to make a spalsh. The equipment flat out works and I think these fins or whatever will serve a purpose.

It's time for the Turbulator...!!

I've never really been a fan of Ping, unfortunately. I'm sure it's a quality driver and I'm very interested to hear more about it and possibly demo one.

On second look, it's not as drastic as I thought on top. It would've been funny though if they released this on April fools day and put the vertical tailfin from a fighter jet (to scale) on the back of the driver "to increase stability".

WOW - I always thought Adams was the king of gimmicky looking drivers - Ping has outdone even Adams with this one ... do not want

I don't understand aero in the driver world, I believe aero works with cars, jets, but look what's under the hood of the most aero shaped machines. I don't in no way believe if any person with a 90 to 100 mph swing speed is going to gain anything from those shark fins. plus I challenge any golfer to try the i25. and actually use the racing stripes to line up your shot :) very very easy.

I loved the racing stripes when I tested the i25, but I still think the turbulators are a better alignment aid than most. I don't really like the aid on the G10, just because it's rounded which makes it a bit more difficult to find square without looking at the face. It's certainly better than the tiny arrow on TM drivers like what the RBZ had .

Some info on the Turbulators,

http://www.golfdigest.com/blogs/the-loop/2014/07/ping-explains-what-turbulators.html

Quote:
The turbulators are a series of angled ridges on the crown of the G30. They are designed to improve the way the air flows around the clubhead. The result, according to a study Ping engineers will present at this month's Conference of the International Sports Engineering Association, is an average increase in clubhead speed of nearly 1 mile per hour when compared with a similar G30 head design without the crown features.

I'm no golf pro and I didn't stay at a holiday inn. come on man! the fins are going to do what? down force? please!

My guess is the fins break up the drag to produce more speed, thereby offering the potential of greater distance.

I just picked up a G25 and it is the longest friendliest driver I have ever hit.  Bring on the turbulators!  What could it hurt.

I like that Ping is Run by engineering not marketing.  They said there is a measurable difference they did not say what that difference is.

The G25 is still listed at $300 and the G30 is $350. Im not in the market right now but I'll definitely hit the new one.

I think the irons should have Turbulators!!!

They're keeping that in their back pocket for the G35 series, once everyone starts putting turbulators on woods. Once that happens, they come out with turbulators for irons and rock everyone's world again.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
