Hope Billy can hang in there tomorrow. Should be fun to watch!

Either of them wins, it's worth $11.4 million.

I could live on that for awhile......

Ditto...would like to see Rickie move a couple of spots too.....

Rooting really hard for Jim Furyk to get it done tomorrow. Don't see it happening, but that would be cool. I think Horschel looks good and will win again.

Think Rory will roll it in, also hope young Jason Day finishes strong.

If he buys a new $50 putter, he might do it.

Rory has to win this...otherwise being Rory isn't what it's cracked up to be. Speaking of Rory not being Tiger, I find it interesting that this thread--the Tour Championship--has about a third the number of posts as the thread about some event Joost Luiten is playing in.

Rory's results this year means he is what he's cracked up to be.

The Luiten thread is being kept alive by two users and the Tour Championship has never been that big of an attraction.

Talk about clutching at straws, reducing the assessment a 25 year old multiple major winner's career down to a single round. You couldn't make it up. Its not that long ago that some were clinging to the "fact" that he couldn't contend in tournaments unless he had his A game, and now that he has shown that he can grind out good scores despite not being anywhere near top form we now move on to the next course in a moveable feast of criteria by which he should be judged. I'm sure that if he wins today you'll have a new yardstick of greatness ready by this evening.

I perceive a lack of interest in this Tour Championship ... lack of 2 of the biggest names over last 17 years? Not the best quality of golf? Ogilvie is  only +29 or so at the moment.

I think the playoff grind has taken its mental toll.

They may want to rethink this system. Embrace change.

Disagree, at least WRT Rory's performance in the playoffs.  He's been in contention in the last two events.  Four putts, three putts, missed opportunities to take control--not what I'm looking for in the next coming of the GOAT.  If he fails to close today, tied for the lead and playing in the final group with the cup on the line, then I'll be very disappointed.  That's just me.

And the Tour Championship should be drawing more discussion than the Dutch Masters, is all I was saying.

Wow.  You've reacted strongly to and inferred much from my post.  Maybe the straws are in the other hand?

I'm not looking for a new Tiger, I'm just looking to see what Rory can do.

And I won't be judging Rory's career based on a few tournaments and rounds. Every great golfer has had good and bad periods.

Og and btw:

Surprised this thread doesn't have more interest, although we haven't got to the last round yet.

$10 million prize money, McIlroy joint leader going into the final round, what isn't interesting about today

Well...The only game I can watch right now is the Raiders game. In other words, I'm watching The Tour Championship. Go Furyk!

Somehow ironic if Furyk closes the deal...

as the guy who can't close, closes.

    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
