Wearing a watch will cost you 10-15 yards. Can anyone corroborate (or not) this?

Question may be moot though. Who wears a watch nowadays? But still interested in a definitive answer.

I'll have to test this out with my SkyPro.  I think it's possible since they link driver swing speed to the weight of the driver and in that case we're talking grams not ounces.

I wonder if it matters which hand the watch is worn.

This could kill the golf watch industry if it proves to be true, I don't know many that would willingly give up 10 yards on their drives.

1 MPH clubhead speed is typically about 2.5 yards.

So 5 yards, yes.

10-15, nah.

The math doesn't add up.

94.6 -> 143.3 = 1.51 smash

94.6 -> 227.6 carry = 2.406 yards/mph

92.6 -> 141.2 = 1.52 smash

92.6 -> 218.2 carry = 2.36 yards/mph

So…

OFF TOPIC... Makes me think of the joke. Your mama is so fat she needs 2 watches. One for each time zone. :-)

If your worrying about your watch it's gonna do more harm than the watch itself !  If you think not wearing one will improve your scores then take it off I suppose.

But realistically there are far more important things to put your mind to.

I think these were averages.

I've seen pros put on a watch at the 18th fairway to get some advertising in, but not often elsewhere. I haven't worn a watch since I was 16 and keep as little as possible on my person on the course. In my pockets you can find a small pitch mark tool, ball marker and sometimes a short tee.

I also don't see how that small a difference in swing speed could cause 10-15 yards. Maybe the watch affected his timing or the fact that he was conscious about wearing a watch made him change things a little.

I think these were averages.

Can the total distances really be that different if the ball speeds almost the same? Unless the dude got really lucky on his first set of swings, I feel like there probably weren't more than a couple swings for each test

Kinda what I said in my post earlier.

Just saying they're averages, so I don't know that "mishits" qualify as a reason.

Well at least I have this in my favor. :-D

I had a Mickey Mouse watch when I was about 6 years old but haven't had a wrist watch since. Don't even have a wedding ring to slow me down. ;-)

With the jobs I've had a wrist watch, ring, or anything like that was dangerous so I was never tempted to wear anything.

What if you wear the watch on your ankle?

It will take a tenth off of your 40 time. ;-)
