It's probably not a big deal to go on the fringe but why bother? seems like a lot of extra work, I just push towards the next tee then grab my clubs and walk to the green.

Yeah, I have no problem putting my cart on the tee box. It's basically fairway.

A lot of courses would disagree with you.

Fair enough. If those courses posted a notice or added a line on the scorecard to that effect, I'd happily act accordingly. Absent that, I think it's fair game.

Imo, a notice is not required.  Such actions are not showing respect for the golf course.  Pull/push carts should never be on tee boxes, fringes or putting greens.  If you show that much disrespect for the course, the course gods will get even with you through bad bounces, plugged lies in bunkers etc.

Seems dramatic. I think it'd be more circumspect to just say one should avoid doing things that damage the course. Nothing I've ever seen has made me suspect the areas have been worse for the wear.

Pish posh. I'll roll up the tee box on some holes. Always stay off the greens and skirt the fringe. Push carts are pretty harmless.

This must truly be more about etiquette than actual damage. Try this. Drive a 3 or four wheel modern push/pull cart with a full bag over your hand. Now have the 240 pound golfer step on your hand. I seldom use a push cart bet when I do I don't park or drive on the green but parking on the tee box or going across the fringe instead of walking around a sand trap is all fair game.

theres nothing i can see wrong with rolling your push cart onto the tee box.  it doesnt "disrespect" the course in any fashion.  it causes no damage.  WTF???

I've actually had to ask guys to move their trolley out of the way so I can use the part of the teeing ground that I want to play from.  Too many players don't understand that part of their job is to show consideration for the people they are playing with as well as for the course.  Is it really that hard to park the damn thing away from the tee box?  After all, you are walking the course so you can't be doing it out of laziness.  I've seen small tee boxes that would be nearly unusable with 3 or 4 trolleys parked on them.

While all of those things could certainly be a problem if they happened, I've never encountered such an issue. Teeing grounds where I play could generally fit a few tanks, so it hasn't been much of a problem.

But why is it a problem for you to park off the box?  I mean, we are only talking about a few feet.  Is another 15 feet really that big a deal?  I'm a rider and I don't see that as a problem.  Back when I walked every round, it was no big deal to leave my bag on the cart path with the riding carts, if there were any in my group.  I don't remember even placing my stand bag on the tee box, much less my 3 wheeler when I started using one.  It's just simple courtesy to keep the clutter away from the teeing ground.

I guess if you golf with a lot of golfers that have no common sense. I generally only pull my car up to par 3s so that I can use my rangefinder immediately put it away. It is never near where anybody is going to hit though.

Depends on the teeing ground and how it sets up with respect to coming from the previous hole and proceeding to the rest of the hole. Sometimes its the natural place to go when going from the last hole. Other times it saves a trip back to the cart to proceed down the fairway. On par 3s, I need to get a yardage from the GPS in my cart. I won't go out of my way to bring my cart with me onto a teebox just because, but I wouldn't think twice about doing it if it makes sense to do so.

thats why you dont see it as a problem.

truth be told, its minor.  but when walking, you learn to try and streamline all of your movement so as to conserve energy and not have to walk unnecessarily.

ouch... lol

And it will even do more damage if you added the 25 lb bag to the 240 lb golfer making it 265 lb all on one foot.  And add to that rolling from the heal to the toe, that's a lot of weight per square inch.

I agree it's about etiquette, just like wearing a collared shirt.

I have heard that in the Sandbelt region of Australia, players go right across the greens with their walking carts.

My club isn't in the sandbelt but another part of Melbourne, however we also have a rule that push & pull carts may be taken across greens. Often there will be one or two greens with a sign saying no access across green but generally they find it better to have traffic spread across the green rather than concentrated on the surrounds. Almost everyone walks and pulls or pushes their clubs, so there is quite a lot of traffic each day.

I have never heard of that, are you thinking of courses in Australia with sand greens?

I personally would not go onto the tee box, but if you think about it this is the best possible area of the course to risk damage to the ground.

Even in the unlikely event that your clubs are so heave that they do damage, most people will use a tee so the condition of the ground is not as big a deal.
