After day one, Lowry and McIlroy are leading at -6. Luiten had a decent start and is at T12.

Two of the winners of other tournaments in the Final Series 2014 are on the bottom (Siem at +5, Koepka in last place at +6). Donald (+4) and Manassero and Poulter (+3) also with bad starts.

Henrik Stenson. 294 yards, over water, out of the rough. 3 wood.

Yea, but he landed it about 40 yards short of the pin. The water was another 10 yards behind that. His shot went 294 yards, but he landed the ball about 250.

The rough could have helped him if it was a flier lie as well. Launch it a bit higher with a tad less spin. Let it roll out more.

Stenson takes the lead after the second day after a solid -6 (-10 total). McIlory is in second place. Luiten shot a -3 and remains at T12 (-5) and still has chances to finish good here.

Ball below the feat. Hitting a fairway wood. Probably didn't want to thin the ball, so he dug after it a bit.

Yeah when pros hit shots like that it's usually with a fairway wood. I think the last one we saw like that was Stacy Lewis.

Geoff Shackelford said he topped it but it looks like he duffed it.

I think so to. Usually when you top a fairway wood it doesn't fly nearly as well as that. The roll on the face which takes off loft and how deep the club is, it is very hard to get any height on a fairway wood when topped.

I think he hit it slightly fat with some wet conditions. The announcer said it his foot could have slipped. I don't think it did. He just outright miss hit that shot.

WEIGHT FORWARD RORY, WEIGHT FORWARD!

Just watched it again, his foot didn't slip. Golf is hard, I think there's a golf book that talks about that ;-)

I like this part of the description in that link:

Instead, he hits the weak fairway wood shot that is all-too-familiar to many of us amateur players. It usually happens to us after we've waited a few minutes for the group ahead to clear the green though.

Been there. Many times. :-$

Looked like he was trying to hit a cut, maybe came down a little too steep?

Nope, stuff happens. You compare that swing against a fairway wood that he purred and they'll look exactly the same. Hmmm, maybe a potential thread.

Just watched Justin Rose 'chili-dip' a short chip.  He was on an uphill lie and buried the club 3 inches behind ball.  Ball went 3 feet. Then he took a hybrid club and rolled it on. Close too.  Commentator was embarrassed that the world's #7 golfer would do such a thing.

He did that at the US Open or one of the other majors this year too.  Golf is hard.

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
