I am familiar with the general dress codes of golf.  I have a more specific question, though, is it usual for shirts to be tucked in?  Can you get in trouble on courses by leaving shirts untucked?

It would be unlikely for this to be an issue on most courses.  Some very expensive country clubs may have a rule.

I never tuck my shirt in, however I wear all appropriate golf clothes so I don't get hassled. If you're wearing cargo shorts they may make you tuck in the shirt out of spite but I've never had an issue.

Depends on the course. I never had anyone tell me to tuck in my shirt, though I usually keep it tucked in anyways.

If a golf course is described as public, I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. If you are wearing a shirt and got your butt covered, you're good.

If it's private, look em up on line and see if they have rules posted. Most courses with dress codes will spell it out on their web sites.

The courses that you're playing (like the ones I recommended in your earlier thread) here in Orlando won't mind at all....  Most of them have a very relaxed, bordering non-existent, dress code.

My rules for shirts off the course is:

shorts = untucked shirt

Long pants (not jeans) = tucked shirt

Long pants (jeans) = untucked shirt

On the golf course, it would depened on the particular course's rules, but I think the above rules would work for most courses also.

I usually tuck mine in, but when it gets really hot I'll pull it loose for additional ventilation.  I've never played a course, even a couple of private country clubs, where it was prohibited.

Most public / muni courses don't require you to tuck in your shirt but at the two private clubs I've belonged to it was required.  Only outerwear doesn't have to be tucked in.

At private and more upscale clubs, I've noticed two things:

1) Shirts must be tucked in, and

2) Hats must be taken off indoors.

Most public, relaxed courses, you won't have to worry about this.

My course's full dress code for men:

Gentlemen (of all ages)

Appropriate golf slacks or shorts which must be no more than six inches above the knee from the floor when kneeling.  Collared shirts are preferred; however, mock neck shirts with a collar band of at least 1½ inches are acceptable. All shirts must be tucked in at all times with the exception of collared shirts having a straight-cut, finished hem and a full-buttoned front.

Socks must be knee or ankle length (not more than 3 three inches above the shoe), not sports socks folded or rolled down.

Appropriate footwear for golf must be worn on the golf course.  Golf sandals are acceptable with or without socks.  A soft spikes only policy is in effect from April 1 until September 30.

Caps or visors are permitted on the lower floor and may also be worn outside on the patios.  Caps and visors must be worn in a forward position.

Denim of any kind is not permitted on the Golf Course or any of the practice facilities.

I've highlighted the part dealing with the tucked shirt issue.
