Could be all three. But what really bugs me is when playing with Members,on my own course, the ritualistic pantomime that I have to endure. Some need to measure the distance with their range finder in order to establish which next club to take. Some address the ball with three different clubs, before making their decision. Others need to take at least three practice strokes before hitting the ball, while others need to take practice swings after hitting the ball! Give me Strength! Do they not realise they are affecting my game? The answer is No, because they are completely Selfish. OR are they doing it to 'disrupt' me?

This doesn't take much time at all. I use a rangefinder it maybe adds 3 minutes onto the round. That isn't including how long it would take me to pace off yardages from the nearest yardage marker if you can find one.

This in the end is more of a you problem really. You are letting them effect your game. Is playing slow annoying, yes. What do you have control over, yourself and your own emotions. So really, just learn to adjust to different pace of play.

If you are playing for money they are certainly trying to disrupt you.

It could be that "you" are allowing them to affect your own game. When I play, I control what goes on in my own game when it comes to other players. My clubs, ball, , and the course itself give me enough to think about. What other players are doing are their own issues.

The weather, course conditions, course slope, and rating are what they are. Can't do anything about those parts of the game. Everything else is pretty much up to me. Mental toughness, and/or control I guess you could call it. I will either score well, or I won't. One thing is for certain. I was golfing, and I had a relaxing, fun time while chasing that little ball into all those holes.

Welcome to the board, Supertom.  Now that you have broken the posting ice I hope you'll continue to post.

I know exactly what you mean.   One of the things that drives me crazy is not just the slow play, but WATCHING all of the ridiculous antics that cause the slow play.  One of the ways I try to minimize the effect on my own game is to just not watch.  If I am waiting on a group and I already know they are idiots I will just divert my attention elsewhere until it is time to hit.  That way I do not get aggravated over the guy who spent 3 minutes with his pre-shot routine prior to hitting a 20 yard shank.  So if I don't watch I don't see the silliness and when I step up for my shot I am in a better frame of mind.

People play slow because of attitude and lack of self-awareness, IMO.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's talking about people in his own group. In which case, you have to watch in order to know when it's your turn. If that's the case I know exactly what he means. Like when the guy has taken two practice swings already so you think this one's for real and you start to step to your ball and he takes another practice swing and then he does it again and you feel like Ralph Cramden and you just want to smack Norton and say COMOOOOON!!!!

When they are in your own group it does make it tougher.

Do they not realise they are affecting my game? The answer is No, because they are completely Selfish.

Hmmm, other players won't change their pre-shot routine for you.  Some won't stop using a laser range-finder in order to allow you to play a bit quicker.  Expecting everyone to conform to your vision of how to play golf seems to be the selfish approach.

Yes thank you for your responses. I am losing something here! I ham a 14 handicapper, I do not think I am good, I can do better. I ask my playing partners with gps systems ' how far can yoU hit that club'? Their answer, 'depends', if I hit it cleanly or if I hit it fat. Come on, who are they or you kidding! Walk upto the ball, make your decision, have regard to the wind, your lie and play the ball! Simple! Or isn't,it?

I take 3 the practice swings, but need to start learning to take another one after the stroke. This reminds me, I have to dust off my rangefinder.

Thanks for the pointers. Going to need to try them out. . .

Really?

Seriously, don't let it bother you.

Most golfers play these tactics, as I have found out in the last three months. The best one is the sand trap one. "I didn't see it go in, you should be fine."

Well got people talking which is good.!

You can also get back at them by saying you see the course marshall tapping his feet just over the horizon, so "We better pick up the pace a bit. . .". :-)

I'm with ya, man! I don't dick around with exact yardages (either by lasering or pacing them) and I don't take practice hacks. I own both a rangefinder and a GPS unit, but they're for hunting, not golf. I've never taken either to a course and don't plan to.

Maybe I could shave a stroke here or there if I did those things, but I just can't play that way. It'd feel like I'm fiddle-farting around out there, and that's a feeling I don't enjoy.

Or they could be oblivious to what they are doing, kinda like starting a thread on a subject that we already have several threads on.

I'm not really picking on you since several of us here are guilty of cluttering the boards with repeat threads versus finding an existing one, it's also this particular subject has gotten more than it's fair share of attention lately.

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
