I don't take classes often, but I have a lot of yoga moves in my workout and stretching routine.  I do them daily.

I did last year during the offseason and it really helped my lower back. Never went to an actual class, just used the free sessions offered on demand through our cable provider. This year I've decided that I need to work on building more strength so the yoga's been replaced with light weight training although I mix in some yoga every now and again for flexibility.

Yup.  Great for enhancing flexibility as well as core strengthening.

Not all yoga moves are beneficial. Mobility and flexibility are better gained with full range of motion

strength training. If you build increased range of motion without strength in those new ranges

you will not be able to use it.

if you're doing yoga, you're building strength in every muscle. If you're not, you're cheating at it.

I haven't done a full routine in a while, but yoga is my preferred excercise nowadays. Like @boogielicious , I also incorporate yoga into my stretching routine, but I'd be lying to you if I said I worked out daily. :-P
if you're doing yoga, you're building strength in every muscle. If you're not, you're cheating at it.
I agree. You are strenghtening your muscles as you stretch them, or you're probably doing it wrong. It's not high impact like training for gymnastics or anything, but some positions are downright hard.

It reminds of when I swing. At least for me, my entire body is active when I swing, like it is in most yoga poses. I was curious if anyone else feels the same thing.

Corpse pose is strenghtening?

Haha I was going to make a corpse pose joke earlier, too. But seriously, it's a pose meant for post routine relaxation/cool-down. Not every excercise is helpful or beneficial, either (i.e. situps or military press). I can probably find a pose you can't do for every pose you find that's easy, so lets just not go down that road. ;-)

Yoga isn't just for mobility and flexibility.  You can build a lot of strength, especially if you get into some of the inversion techniques.  Full ROM lifting is great, but ass to grass squats won't get you to do the splits.  There's a reason both types of exercise exist, and if you think you should only do one without the other you are robbing yourself of potential benefits.

Ha, some of you guys think only about the body, the body, the body.  At the highest levels yoga is all about the interactions between the body, the mind the the spirit.  I challenge anyone to lie on the back, like in the corpse pose, and keep your mind on one, and only one, thought for one minute.  We will see how strong  you are in your mind.

    • Is anyone going to be there?  I won a couple tickets for Saturday.  Likely spend a half day walking and watching.
    • Day 298 - 2025-07-25 Got some work in after a lesson at Whispering Woods. I hit one SPICY shot during the lesson, too, ha ha.
    • They need to mark it or declare it as such. Even just a thing on the back of the scorecard would do.
    • There are utilities buried along there. I did talk to the one of the course owners today and he said it was OB. When I mentioned "the committee" (USGA and R&A terminology) it didn't seem to register with him.
    • Have played 3 serts of 18 holes since Monday and last night added 6 holes but had to quit because it got dark on us.    My last time I shot a 56 on the front nine with 16 puts. I shot a 57 with 16 puts on the back 9.  I am ordering a 60* Pure Spin Wedge this Tuesday that I found on Ebay.  I am having trouble controlling my drives, but a lot of it is being nervous and still just starting to relax a little.  I am planning on playing Men's Senior this coming Tuesday.  It is definitely an adventure but so far it has been worth it.  My back pain (lower) is gone, and my leg cramps are almosrt gone.  My putting is improving.  Okay, Golfers: As of this morning, starting on January 1, 2025: Steps = 1,035,587 ; MIles = 472.14 ; Stairs = 1, 664 Not bad for a 78 year old golfer that is 5'10"and 150 pounds.  I will quit bragging for now and say a big "Thank You" for all your encouragement.  Will play a little more over the next few weeks and see if I can lower the score.  I even have a book: "Lowest Score Wins" by Erik J. Barzeski & David Wedzik; I think I have seen some strategies somewhere inside. 😄   Thanks,  Retired Old Man, Terry
