Or they go to 5 yard gaps on the mid to short irons, and maybe even tighter on wedges.  Their swings are consistent enough and they practice enough to be able to be effective with it.

Nah, all that means is that now when they mis-club, the announcers aren't going to say "wow, he was a full club short on that one" but rather "he was a full FOUR clubs short on that one." :-P

I voted for 30+, because they don't have to carry them.

LOL.  But what would the caddies' union say about that?  Increased compensation?  Added health benefit (their back can go out early)?   Humane society may join in to protest.

I know I would like 15, which what I voted for. I think most pros could find a use for an extra club or two. Mickelson would probably have Bones toting around 20 or so.......

To the folks who think pros would only add one or two clubs, would you think it might be any different if the 14 club rule had never happened and pros hadn't calibrated their games to it over all these years?

That's the scenario that got me thinking it could be 30+ clubs.

For example, I can think of uses for stubby clubs and longer ones and also all different lofts and flights like a full GI set, CB set, and maybe a full blade set, etc.

Manufacturers would love this because they could really open up more marketing avenues for each type of club they could add to a golfers bag. Of course, very few of us could even begin to know how to use them, but the marketing will be there.

There would certainly be a lot fewer people walking the course.

I voted 15-17, might have voted 15-18 if that had been an option. I think they might carry a couple of drivers depending on the course, an additional wedge or two, possibly a leftie(or rightie) club, and maybe an addtional putter. They have the ability to hit so many shots with the same club, that I don't think it would be as wild as some would think.

On the other hand,  their sponsors might pay them all to carry 25 and convince us idiots that we needed to as well.

Sometimes I bag 15 or 16 when I'm just goofing around or not in competition just to experiment. 3 clubs in my bag I don't use much are 5 hybrid, 4 iron and lob wedge. If it came down to it I would ditch the 5 hybrid and lob wedge because I like the long irons in my set, especially the 5 and 6. For whatever reason I don't ever get the correct yardage to justify using the 4 although I do hit it well.

Back in the 1930's when steel shafts made clubs cheaper and allowed them to be more easily matched, players were cramming more than 30 in their bags.  I figure that if it was allowed, the pros would be doing the same today.  Why not?  Learn one swing and just change clubs for almost every shot he'd face.

I read one account of richer players showing up at courses with two carts, each containing about 15 clubs.

Most current players - especially tour pros - have more than 14 clubs at their disposal. They just vary the club mix according to the course they play.

I chose 15-17. I could see most players benefiting from having an extra wedge, hybrid, or driving iron in their bag. Or another driver if you're Mickelson...

I think it could be a lot of clubs.

At least two drivers, set up to hit high/low or draw/fade.

A deep faced FW designed to hit off of the tee.

2-3 FW woods.

2-3 hybrids.

10 irons at 3-degree gaps, from 21* (3i) to 48* (PW).

4 wedges (also at 3* gaps, from 51* to 60*).

1-2 opposite hand clubs.

Putter.

That's 25-28 clubs.  I could easily see that increasing (a lot) if the player favored a different setup for high/low launch, or draw/fade, or wanted to carry duplicate wedges with different bounce/grind.
