I usually do not put the headcover back on my clubs until the round is over with when I'm taking a cart. The headcovers just go in the basket of my golf cart until the round is over. Then, they go back on.

Posted

My putter and hybrid HCs go into the trunk when I unload my clubs. Driver HC usually ends up in cart basket for most of round. If it's a wet day, I leave HCs off so I don't get mud up inside them.

Original purpose of headcovers was so irons going in and out of bag didn't dent the persimmon-headed woods. Probably not as much a problem with metal-woods.

Some players with unusual-shaped modern putter heads keep HC on for cushioning, which I can understand.

My iron covers go in the basket as I use them but woods and hybrids get put back on. Can't stand the clanging sound and imagining the dings or paint chips on the white heads. It also lets me evaluate what clubs I don't hit during the round at a quick glance.

Posted

My covers stay on hybrid, wood, and driver.   Otherwise, they hit each other and make rattling noise while I drive my cart.   Also, without the covers, irons will run against the clubs' shaft and wear the paint out.

The cost of clubs, head covers only come off when the particular club is being used, as said clubs rattle and rub so the covers on are a must, it only takes a few seconds to remove and replace them when playing, my view good insurance to keep them on and clubs  in a good condition.

I keep the covers on my hybrids and putter.  Driver head cover is in the basket the entire round, as that is the club I use the most.

I play around 50 rounds a year and maybe ride 5 times. Usually I put my driver cover in the basket. I don't have covers on my putter or irons, but I do keep the covers on my fairway woods/hybrid, just to avoid the banging and clanging.

Maybe even more so with painted metal woods. I keep mine on throughout the round. It's when the clubs are moving, whether bouncing around in the back of the cart, or on your back, or being removed and replaced in the bag that dings and dents can occur. Mine just don't seem to move around a whole lot on their own as the sit quietly in the garage waiting for the next round! :-)

Do not use iron covers

Fairway and hybrid cover are replaced after a shot

Driver - depends on the driver of the cart. Walking or Push Cart? Driver cover is off.

I played my first round a couple weeks ago but I did not put on the headcovers during the round. The clubs I took the headcovers off of were the driver and my 3-wood. It kept making a rattling noise because they were banging against each other. I examined the clubs at the end and there was no paint chips or dents.... I was lucky! I should probably start putting on headcovers during the round after I use a club.

Mine go back on after every shot.  The main reason for using them is to protect the shafts of the longer clubs from getting dinged up by the shorter irons (I don't use iron covers).  The quickest way to snap a graphite shaft is to weaken it by getting a nick down near the hosel.

The body of my putter head is aluminum, so I always use that cover to protect the head.

I don't worry about mud because I wipe my clubs after every shot.

My main teeing wood for that day loses the head cover after it gets used first. If I'm playing speed golf during twilight, putter cover comes off too, but I reorganize my bag so things don't get dinged up.

The only time I use iron covers is when I pack my clubs for travel.  So while on the course, the irons and wedges are fully exposed.  Everything else is covered aside from my driver.  I throw the driver cover in the basket because it's the longest club and while in the bag, it towers over everything else and doesn't clang against anything.

Headcover on my fairway and driver, always.  I can count on one hand the number cart rides I had last season, with my push cart I do take the putter cover off though.  My bag has a putter well on the side and it doesn't bump into anything so no worries there.

My headcovers stay on - takes a split second to take them on & off - my putter & woods still look new after several years. Nothing worse than a cart bouncing down the fairway & somebody's woods clanking together sounds like they're dragging a Christmas tree being the cart !!

I keep mine on throughout the round. Plenty of time to put it back on when others are teeing off. I'll sometimes leave it off the driver if playing alone and just cruising along.
