I agree, but they have shown no willingness to do any of those things. Their pockets are filled with donations from the wealthy and the corporations, and the religious right has fully taken over the party. Even Barry Goldwater, a conservative's conservative, thought this was a bad way to go.

Both sides pockets are filled. I wouldn't say it's just the democrats. A lot of businesses profit from the liberal side of things. It's a total misconception to think all corporations are all republican. I bet a lot of detroit liberals had their pockets filled with union money.

They are going to continue to lose to the Dems, especially in Presidential elections. Around 33-35% of the country will never vote Republican, their core demographic is shrinking each year, and they have shown zero willingness to modernize. It's going to be a tough road.

Not sure. The USA doesn't like to elect parties to more than two terms. They give one party an 8 year shelf life. It took WWII to keep FDR in office.

I agree. The republican base is shrinking. Still close to 30% of the population will not vote democrat as well. I think more people today identify as independent as ever.

The first bolded statement: not to the degree of Republicans, but it's an impossible point for me to argue, because I can't find the numbers.

The second and third bolded statement: most corporations are Republican, because Republican policies benefit their bottom line. It's not an insult as much as it is a financial reality. As far as them profiting from the liberal side of things, I'm agree, though perhaps not in the way you intended. Liberal ideas tend to go to taking care of workers, which increases productivity, loyalty, blah blah blah. A conversation for a different day :)

The fourth bolded statement: Perhaps, but it doesn't matter. Romney won a higher percentage of the white vote than Reagan, and still lost convincingly. There's not a lot of breathing room there.

I think the issue is that the latino vote has grew by nearly 10% since the 80's. They also have a good size swing in states like Florida.

Yea demographics have changed, republican's haven't adapted.

Bingo.   What's worse for the Reps is that the demographic is definitely moving further away from the tea party conservatism.  The tea party is living in the past and they will ruin the Rep party.   I almost think that we now have 3 party systems - the Dems, Reps, and Tea Party.

Since this is a thread about Trump, I will say that Trump is really screwing up the Rep party to the point of no return for this election.  Sad, really.   An egotistic narcissist, liar, and bigot making a mockery for the POTUS election.

Well Trumpie is doing well, far better than the pundits ever thought he would at this stage of the game. I for one am loving what he 's doing to the other Republicans [ I guess you could call them candidates ] . The Republicans have a bunch of nitwits on stage. So apropo

Let's see if Trumpie's the nominee he might pick that stupid [ expletive deleted ] that almost bankrupted Hewlett Packard broad. What a ticket that would be, or he might pick the whacko of whackos Sarah Palin.

I won't even get into the Democrats and Hillary

Ah see what the Billionaires have given us to run the country, nitwits but that's what this country is about these days. Nitwits running everything because how can you blame a nitwit for screwing up everything, they are automatic disclaimers.

Say what you will, the dude is winning. His message is resonating with a large set of voters that have likely felt left out of the last few election cycles. He is energizing a base the same way Obama did in '08.

As a conservative, I'm afraid we just don't have the horses anymore to elect a republican candidate, Trump included.    The countries demographic has changed, and that's ok, but I'm convinced there will always be more liberal minded people than traditional conservative minded people.    I don't see a republican ever being elected unless things get so bad, people vote for anything other than what created the issue.  It's bad, but everybody still has their 2 SUV's, are employed, not sweating making their weekend tee times ... the evergrowing out of control deficit doesn't yet affect the average person.   Both conservative and liberals alike can't seem to get past the piddly social issues they differ on to vote on the real issues that have far greater impact on the country.    Things just aren't bad enough yet to elect a republican ... and I don't see it changing.

He is leading the Rep nomination race but his general election bid does not look good.  His unfavorable rating as a general election candidate is highest among all candidates.  In that sense, he can't be compared to Obama who actually won the general election.

LOL!   That's classic.   Amazingly, he's still leading the polls.

I am eagerly (?)  waiting on Trump's response to Ted Cruz's recent "attack" on him.  Cruz recently said he does not see Trump winning the nomination.   I think Trump will get busy on attacking Cruz as he will interpret Cruz's comment as clear attack.

I just want to post something i found ironic.  Trump carries and isn't huge into the whole gun control issue, because as he and others have said, criminals won't follow the law anyway.  BUT, Trump wants to build a huge wall on the USA-Mexico border to stop illegal immigration.  Umm, how is this different from gun control?  They will find ways around it anyway, hence the term "illegal".

Just what I was thinking this morning...

This just in.  Denis Rodman supports Donald Trump.  The same guy that went to North Korea and lauded Kim Jong Un.  He sure can pick the leaders.   ;-)

Here might be a reason why Trump will not win the republican primary. Though he might be an outlier in this case. It makes sense when you think you get people who are in the political arena. Who already have a built up base and political machine in their state or district. If they support you then you get a lot of assets. Going back to 84 the person with the most political support usually gets the nod.

The murmurs I here is that when the Donald's popularity decreases and he falls out, that Ted Cruz is in position to take both his and Carson's supporters. Cruz has been saving his money and has an organization.

Cruz is a real revolutionary in the extreme right wing sense.

Not sure I like Cruz. Politifact has 67% of his statements as at least mostly false or worse. That only makes him 8% better than trump. He's very misleading in his comments or just outright wrong.

Jeb Bush has been 32%, Rubio is at 39%, Kasich is at 29%.

Honestly the only candidate I like so far is Kasich. I am from Ohio, so I might be biased a bit. I think he's done a good job for the state.

Of the GOP pack, I've heard good things about Kasich ... bad about Carly (a clever secretary with good timing $$$ and a sharp mouth), Trump (bluster without facts), Carson (don't see him as qualified, and don't see Carly or Trump as qualified), Cruz is dangerous and lies even more than the usual politician, I see where our form of representative government could be endangered by Cruz, Jeb is too wishy-washy in his statements - suffers from his Dad's syndrome of not being able to speak, but behind the scenes he knows what he is doing, Rubio - identity crisis to a certain extent, and that leaves Kasich -- perhaps he needs to speak louder to attract an audience in this circus.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
