"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (July 2015)

Went to the short game area again. Worked on really getting my Distance Wedge keys in. A good sign was I was hitting them very flighted with a shallow divot. Also, the swing felt very effortless for the distance. Then I worked on some pitching as well.

Mirror work, getting my hands down and deep on down swing.  (5 minutes only after the grooginess of the colonoscopy drugs wore off )

Mirror work - Worked on moving hips slightly forward in back-swing.

Indoor swings.  1/2, 3/4 and full.  Head still.  Hip slide/turn.  Brush the carpet.

10 minutes dry swings feeling the right arm in front and a flatter left wrist.

Study Lowest Score Wins, Chapter 1. (Over played this week and sore and hip sore). Make note cards.

Played twice this weekend and hit range last night. Working on shoulder turn today in the garage

Almost missed today, woke up late. Too much of touring NYC, I guess. Practiced some slow hip turns, then shortening the swing.

10 minutes mirror work mapping my swing and doing tempo work.

Practiced the closed face drill outside with a club.

Took a lesson yesterday so had plenty to work on today. Primarily focused on keeping the club from getting inside on the takeaway. It's a move I've struggled with since I started this game. Hit 30 balls and then played 21 chipping and putting.

Practice my priority pieces with a tripod and a driveway stick. Was surprised to see myself automatically doing the first priority piece without thinking about it.

30 minutes at the range, working on steady head and full turn on backswing.

Did the "chair turn" thing ... I like the exercise, helps to keep center turning ...

Played 9 holes.

Tee Shots: B, maybe only a two solid drives, but the misses were acceptable.

Approach Shots: Terrible. Never really felt comfortable over the ball in my set up. Still struggling to get that right side downswing piece right with the irons. Downswing feels rushed and fast.

Distance Wedges: My practice didn't translate to the course. I didn't do my downswing piece enough.

Pitching: Much much better. I am feeling really comfortable around the greens.

Putting: Much better. Stopped taking so long over the short putts and it helped out.

Best shot of the night: Last drive of the night. Hit a straight shot that faded maybe 5 yards. I finally felt the difference between what I was doing and what I need to do. I just need to do it more often.
