I'd kill for a round of golf in Southern Alaska this weekend. If they have a course up there.

A few. I've never played but went by one in Sitka.

So many golf courses, so little time.

Reminds me of an old story about a young bull and Pappa bull.

Pappa Bull says "Let's just take our time son and play them all" .......

It somewhat gratifying to see Colorado in the top 10.  I keep touting our golf opportunities, but rarely get any notable responses.  This time of year this is one of the best places in the country to play golf, as well as many other outdoor activities when not playing.

I can see that. As of now, my only personal experience with Colorado is a layover in the Denver airport. Getting out there in the summer to play golf is on my short list.

Well, yes it's nice now. But we had a blizzard on Mothers Day. That's May for crying out loud! Every state has a "season" where golf is nice. Colorado however is one of the states where you will go months with no golf. Not for me. I'm moving to Florida.

I've been playing golf in Colorado for 40 years, and half of those years I didn't miss more than a month or two out of 12 due to winter weather.  Florida in the summer is hell on Earth as far as I'm concerned.  90° heat, 100% humidity, and worse thunderstorms than we get along the front range in Colorado.  Only way I'd play this time of year in Florida is if I had an air conditioned cart.  There is a reason that the Snowbirds don't stay there year round.

I've seen snow in June, so snow in May is no big deal, and those spring storms melt so fast that if you blink you'll miss it.

I was playing until after Christmas last year with more rounds in January and February too!

Ok, I was close. OH and MI are a close enough. NY got beat out by AZ in the top 5, which is fair bc of weather.

Where was NY on the list? Did MI and NY make the top 10?

**EDIT** New York #8 and Michigan #6

Just so everyone is real clear on this point. The preferred moniker for that piece of land and its inhabitants is simply The State Up North or TSUN for short. It goes along with The Team Up North (TTUN) that we see once a year.

Aside from football, there was the Toledo War where TSUN tried and failed to take a five-mile strip of land along our border in 1835-36.

Well. So for 20 years you had 2 months or more with no golf. To each their own. Winter sucks. I can visit snow if I want.

That 2 months was rarely in one chunk.  It's often a week here, two weeks there.    For me heat sucks.  I can always put on more clothes and still play as long as the course is open.  Social convention only allows so much to come off when it's hot, and I know from experience that heat and humidity and me don't work.  I can play in 100+ temps in Colorado whereas at 80 in Florida I start to suffer.

There is no arguing that the heat and humidity in the SouthEast sucks. But the truth is, you get used to it. I grew up in Upstate NY. Lived there for 20 years. Moved to MB in August of 1998. And the humidity was a shock to my system. Took a few years to get used to. But it's tolerable. I will say however, it is worse than the scorching temps in the SouthWest. I've played golf in Vegas in June in 115 degree heat middle of the day, and it wasn't as bad as 100 degrees in SC. The humidity is rough to deal with.

"AS LONG AS THE COURSE IS OPEN" key point there don't you think? Why would it be closed? Ohhhh that's right, -20 blizzard with 6" snow on the ground...yeah go ahead and put on warmer clothes and play in that. Also, I'd rather play in shorts than to have to wear double gloves and look like the kid from "Christmas Story" while trying to play golf. You're right....summer in Colorado is more enjoyable to me than summer in Houston or Florida....but the fact is I can play golf all year round in Florida ....period. Colorado? No way.

I'm suppose to avoid the sun, Dr's orders.  So, I'm in long pants and long sleeves and prefer it on the cool side.  I'd be willing to play down to about 40 degrees, but above about 80 degrees and I'm not walking when I play, above about 90 degrees and I'm not playing at all (even in our drier climate).

I don't know about hell on earth. You would get used to it. I used to walk 36 during the summer, but now I take a cart May thru October. The rest of the year I walk. I grew up in Western NY (Jamestown). I love golfing there in the summer. But I've been up there for 50 deg weather on the 4th of July. That sucked. My goal in life is to be a snowbird. My bucket is pretty shallow. :-D
