I agree. The survey is not the best. It has me for Santorum, but we here in Pennsylvania found out about his hypocrisy when he was Senator. I would not vote for this man.

Me, too. Very weak.

I didnt really know much about him, but I looked him up; I like a lot of what he says.

The thing I remember about him as governor is that he wanted to change the Christmas Tree to a Holiday Tree.

Here is a good synopsis of my positions as well.

I have always been a middle of the road guy. I have voted in every election since I was 21, the age of eligibility when I was young, and have voted for 5 Republicans, 5 Democrats, and 1 independent. Right now my choices are Dr. Ben Carson or Marco Rubio.

It has caused problems before.

(CNN) -- NASA lost a $125 million Mars orbiter because a Lockheed Martin engineering team used English units of measurement while the agency's team used the more conventional metric system for a key spacecraft operation, according to a review finding released Thursday.

The units mismatch prevented navigation information from transferring between the Mars Climate Orbiter spacecraft team in at Lockheed Martin in Denver and the flight team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

Lockheed Martin helped build, develop and operate the spacecraft for NASA. Its engineers provided navigation commands for Climate Orbiter's thrusters in English units although NASA has been using the metric system predominantly since at least 1990.

No one is pointing fingers at Lockheed Martin, said Tom Gavin, the JPL administrator to whom all project managers report.

Respectfully disagree. "Extreme right wing racist Oreo?"  The language is a little harsh.  Extreme? Hardly. Racist Oreo? C'mon.

Dr. Carson is a conservative Christian with values that appeal to me, including fiscal responsibility. We have been driven too far to the left by the current resident in the White House, and need to right our ship. In addition, we need a Washington outsider to change the political climate, and I feel that Dr. Carson would fill the bill. :smartass:

The current resident of the White House has been far more fiscally responsible IMO than the previous resident. My issue with the GOP is the realization that the GOP Presidents have not been fiscally responsible as they claim to be. Reagan, GHW and GW all ran up the deficit. Reagan increased taxes and started the Ponzi scheme known as "Supply Side Economic". I want fiscal responsibility and neither party does that no matter what they say they do.

Below are the first google hits, but there are many more.

Whereas the last two Democratic Presidents slowed the increase or even reduced it..

Clinton left the Presidency with a surplus.

The real debate between liberals and conservatives is what we want to spend the money on and how we distribute the tax load. Neither party works to improve the efficiency of government, which would reduce the tax load. There is too much cronyism and payback to lobbyists going on for both parties. The tax code is rife with breaks and benefits for the lobbyist that you and I don't ever see.

I think we can all agree on the last part.

I am an independent BTW. I am conservative when it comes to money and liberal when it comes to people.

Harsh? Yes. From what I've listened to, Carson is extreme.

I've known too many so-called Christians who act very un-Christian-like. I don't want this version of extreme Christianity in my politicians. I like the values of Christ. I do not think a lot of Christians represent Christ's values. Carson seems like one of these.

There is a reason for separation of Church and State -- let's respect it.

Bring real Christian values, if those are your values, but leave your religion outside the door of the State.

Still not fiscally responsible enough. At least Bush spent money upfront and you knew what he spent. Obama created a welfare program that will probably increase our national spending by a significant amount in the neat future.

Really spending is not the issue. Its the overbearing, out of date regulations we have. Some business have to hire full time lawyers just to sift through the 170,000 pages of regulations the US has.

Also its the out of date tax code known as the income tax. Why would anyone want to tax income?

I had to pay $4560 in federal income taxes last year. You know what I could do with that money? Put it towards retirement, help take the burden off social security. Lets say I take my check fed tax payments and turn them into monthly payments. In 15 years I would have upwards of $100,000 dollars.

That tax payment per year could equal a substantial amount of a person's college yearly tuition. That tax payment could help pay off or support any medical issues a person might have. If you want to tax anything, then tax the final goods and services. Create a national sales tax and be done with it. Taxing labor is just a stupid economically stifling idea.

Sure you could do this. But then how do we pay for things like roads, bridges, the army, the navy, etc. It is a dream that we could eliminate federal income tax. The private section will never, ever pay for anything unless they are forced to.

But if you eliminate all the loopholes and lobbyist created tax breaks, we all would pay less because many are not paying their fair share. Add reducing government waste and inefficiency, and we'd get more money back. None of the pols want to do that because that is what butters their bread.

well only about 3% of the department. of transportations budget actually gets spent on Building and fixing roads ands bridges. The rest is spent on overhead. Im sure the same applies to the army and navy.

Exactly why I was talking about improving the efficiency of government. Neither party addresses that.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
