Justin Thomas leading through 36.  Just a matter of him closing tournaments out, which he hasn't been able to do yet.  Has had a few Sunday meltdowns so far.

Last thing you want if you're Jordan Spieth is weather delays. A Monday finish would be a disaster. Calling for rain tomorrow too

Hell of a golf shot by Spieth on the second hole.

I hate comparing anyone to Tiger Woods, but I don't remember a player since Tiger who was in contention week in and week out like this. Every week he's in contention to win, and he's got 5 of them since December if you count the World Challenge and Aussie Open. And it's not just a hot stretch. He's been doing this almost every tournament since 2013. He just had one rough patch last summer.

I agree about Woods comparisons so I compare at similar ages. Spieth far ahead of Woods at almost 22 yrs old. Hard to imagine he'll be able to continue this pace and remain ahead of Tiger but to this point, he's the man. Get to 7 or 8 majors and those comparisons will become more relevant. And we have Rory to boot. Just a great time to be golf fans.

It really is impressive. It goes overlooked because he's not super long and he doesn't strike it like a Rory or Tiger in his prime. But what most people don't realize is he doesn't have a weakness, and his putting from 5-15 feet may be better than anyone that's ever played the game if he keeps his numbers where they are now throughout his career. Most people just don't realize how vital a stat that is when you make putts from 5-15 feet consistently. It's what made Tiger and what is holding Rory back from being more consistent.

Whoa...

His driver is a part of his game he's going to have to work on before next Thursday because missing fairways at The Old Course and putting them in bunkers are automatic one-shot penalties. You want to miss left and he's been missing right.

That being said, the John Deere's playing soft and he's torching it, and word is St. Andrews is playing just as soft. So this actually may be good practice as it looks like The Old Course will play like target golf rather thinks links golf. That will help guys out that don't have the links experience. I heard that if the wind doesn't blow much next week, someone may get to -20, but early forecasts are calling for the wind to blow.

Like I said after the US Open.  Golf might have caught fire with the ascent of Tiger Woods, but I think after this year if Jordan keeps up this pace, a lot of people will be going "Tiger Who".  And it seems to have started :)

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
