I'd class myself as an average putter. however i was leaving my lag puts short and struggling 6-9 ft for pars and bogeys. I had to work on my putting. bought 'pill putting aid' online(Amazon 12quid) and mixing things up. I went with the spieth method. left hand lower. seems to of made a difference with me? Any one else had such success?

I don't putt that way, left hand low, but many find it easier to control distance. It has the left hand take control. I do this by having my left hand grip tighter than the right.

If it is working for you, stay with it.  Also, check out this thread. This also helps distance control.

It us just left hand low -- not the Spieth method. Been around for years... a way to get the right hand hit out of the putt.

I basically have a grip where the right hand has no contact with the grip other than the fingers. It's the Pat O'Brien method ... Zach Johnson's instructor, although Zach uses too strong of a grip instead of neutral.

Whatever works. I have tried left hand low ... about 15 yrs ago.

Like you, I was struggling with putts under 10 feet. About a month ago I switch to cross-handed putting or left-hand-low or whatever you want to call it, and since then I've been putting much better.

I still putt "normal" at longer distances (> 25 feet?) because I was always a decent lag putter.

At the very least, it can be a short term solution to a mental problem...

I used to putt cross hand until I found out it's also called cackhand, at which point I stopped. Haven't played much golf this year, my chipping is horrid and flippy right now. I should start chipping cackhanded.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

I've putted LHL for many years now. I've lost count, but it's been over 10. Since it is a different grip, it helps me keep my wrists quiet and hands out of the putt.

I switch back and forth, I know it sounds nuts but for longer lag putts I go LHL and for the short ones, RHL, it works for me... well sort of, I'm a work in progress.

I tried LHL and it was great for short putts but I would hit terrible long putts, so a few months ago I started using a modified claw grip which is working awesome I hardly ever pull or push putts anymore.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
