Anyone ever make a color coded iron?

Seems like I could shave a few seconds of sorting through the bag if I put a dab of paint or a rubber band on my clubs. Maybe it's just the clubs I have are hard to read. Doesn't anyone make some kind of trinket to do this? I Googled it and found nothing.

Wouldn't color coding be a lot more confusing too? The numbering system - which seems to have worked well for many, many years - is straightforward. You hit a 5 longer than a 6 which is longer than a 7, and so on. Who could possibly remember that blue is longer than magenta which is longer than yellow, but not as long as green which is shorter than pink. I think there is a very goodreason you couldn't find anything like it on Google.

I hear your point but working in an office environment where I need to be organized I have come to appreciate the beauty of color coding. Could I get along without it? Yes, but I wouldn't be as efficient. Having said that I don't think the few seconds a round color coding clubs would save is worth it.

To the OP have you considered Iron Head Covers? Getting a set with easy to read numbers might get the result you want without need to color code. You could also probably paint them without having to worry about the paint rubbing off.

I sometimes would grab a 9i when I needed a 6i, and vice versa. Dummy me. I did it often enough, that for a while I put the #6 on the grip end of my 6i. Of course this was a long time ago when my golf bag did not have individual spots for the 14 clubs.

Confusing 6i with 9i is a common mistake, one I used to make a lot.   Golf bag with individual club divider helps.   I know which slot to grab my 9i and 6i.   Issue I have now is, I have 3 wedges which I sometimes carry in my hand near green.   When I put them back, I misplace them in wrong slot. In subsequent hole, I may pick a gap wedge instead of lob wedge.

Still, the above is nothing ... sometimes I mistake the flag for my club and bring it toward my cart before my wife asks me "what in the world are you doing?"  Sometimes, I get in the wrong cart and start driving.   Golf is not only hard but also confusing.

Yup, slots for specific clubs has eliminated this for me. I need order.

Had no idea others brought the flag to their cart , or took other carts...I left the mid point café at one club with a few dogs and drinks, put them on my cart and then went to the wash room. When I came back, my food and cart were gone...no they weren't. I put the food in someone else's cart

I'm not picking on you, but to you and others who have done this - ever - since about the first few months you played golf - HOW? How do you think to yourself "okay, I have 137 yards to the flag, I'm gonna hit a stock 9I here…" and then set down a club that's an inch and a half longer and about 10 degrees stronger lofted or so? It looks and feels so different? How do you not only set up to it, but look down, line up, and then even hit the shot?

One of those things that has never made sense to me.

Obviously… I understand that a 6 can look like a 9. But that's just the number… not the club.

Same here. Just standing over the ball is a completely different feel with a 6 vs a 9. Hell, a 9 is practically a wedge.

Yeah my TaylorMade's have numbers. But the club heads overlap each other and the wood head covers compound that.

How would a dab of paint change that? Sorry, just seems to be a solution in search of a problem. To answer the question though, I've never heard or seen such a thing.

I'm a little more in tune to my game when on the course these days but it wasn't always that way. The best possible shot every time was not always the only consideration.... after all there was a time when golf was just for fun only.

Done both of these at one time or another.  Getting all the way back to your cart with the flagstick still in your hand is embarrassing, especially when I did it a couple of times long before I could call it a senior moment.
