If there was a 2015 Ryder Cup, who would your captain's picks be?

If teams were being selected for 2015, the 9 automatic selections would be (I think):

USA (based on top 9 on money list) - Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Jimmy Walker, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Robert Streb, Brandt Snedeker and J.B. Holmes.

Europe (based on top 5 World Ranking point leaders in 2015 followed by next 4 on Race to Dubai points) - Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Bernd Wiesberger, Paul Casey, Danny Willett, Shane Lowry, Marc Warren and Ross Fisher.

Some surprises in there - especially on the European side. I would expect the US would consider whether to add back in the experience of Phil Mickelson or Jim Furyk (or Tiger Woods, anyone?) and also have guys like Patrick Reed and Charley Hoffman just outside the top 9.

As for Europe, I'd hate to be this year's captain only being able to pick 3 out of Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald and Miguel Angel Jiminez. With 4 rookies already in the European top 9, though, it's hard to imagine a captain throwing another one in.

Who would you go for?

Horschel, Snedeker, Haas, and Kirk. I would choose the two who were playing the best at the time of my picks.

I'm surprised furyk is not in top 9. Even though he's been shaky in Ryder cups and pressure situations, id still go with him, Mickelson and as much as it pains me to say this, Patrick Reed.

Patrick Reed, no doubt. Unless he completely falls off a cliff, I'm always taking him to match play events. He was fantastic with Spieth, and Spieth is like a puppy dog in that he can get along with anybody.

I'd also go for Brooks Koepka, because I love a long hitter in this type of event (although how he's not in the top 9 on the money list, I have no idea). And I also have a lot of respect for the way he came to the PGA Tour. That takes onions, so I think he'd be up to the pressure of a Ryder Cup.

I prefer to completely wash the Ryder Cup team of old timers like Tiger, Phil, and Furyk. I'd prefer young blood. I'd go for Justin Thomas as my third. Again, a really long hitter. Might be a good person to pair up with Zach Johnson.

For Europe, I'd go with Sergio and Poulter for sure, because they live for the Ryder Cup. I'd probably round it out with Kaymer, because he seems to be regaining form right now.

Dear god no. Furyk is a great golfer, no doubt. But his time on the US Ryder cup team needs to come to an end. His Ryder Cup record is one of the worst in US History.

Reed is a no brainer. I'd probably give Mickelson one last shot as well. It seems like guys who posses a bit of swagger do well in these events, so I'd probably lean towards Horschel with my last pick. He should have gotten the nod over Webb Simpson last year.

Europe:- Garcia,Poulter and Kaymar.Along with Rosie and Rory these will be the backbone of the European side at Hazeltine.

USA:-Mickelson ,Horschel and Reed,Reed has lots of fire in his belly and a team needs this,as Poulter has for Europe.

However, the ryder cup points system starts next month and there will be loads of changes this time next year,I suspect Garcia,Kaymar,Poulter and Mickelson will all be automatic picks for their captains.

I agree with the USA though I might swap out Phil with Brooks Koepka.  Phil needs to show he can still play at the top level for me to pick him over one of the younger players.  I don't particularly care for Horschel but think he'd approach it like Reed and be really intense.

I really hope Furyk never plays on another Ryder Cup team. Reed and Horschel would be lock picks for me with a toss up between Mickelson and Koepka for the last spot.

Agree. I too would go with who's playing hot. Along with dumping Phil and Furyk....Keegan has to go. The irritating routine, uni-brow has a poor RC record. I know he's passionate, but so was "Rudy" which we all know now was a pretty exaggerated movie of what really happened.

Yeah, I agree. If Phil isn't there, don't bring Keegan.

I would love to bring along Horschel, too, but he hasn't really done much this year. I love his fire for a Ryder Cup. I really hope he puts himself in the Ryder Cup next year.

I would only pick Keegan if Miguel is on the Europe team and Love-Clarke make a pact to pair them together against each other all 3 days. Only issue with that is I'd hope Miguel kicks his ass every day.

Yep. I'll go with that.

Would love to see John Daly as US captain or vice captain in 2018, that in spite of me being a Euro. Have been lucky to be in his presence at previous tournaments and the guy just oozes character, a two time major winner on two continents and someone who just maybe deserves a shot at one of the greatest team contests to be played in sport.

Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
