I'd be checking for ticks straight away though. Also learned what CWD is. Scary.

Chronic Wasting Disease, it's carried by deer and very dangerous. Lot's of cases in CO and WY.

That is unusual.  We used to do a lot of camping and fishing trips in my family growing up.  My parents taught us that whenever an animal acts that way it is not normal and to be on the safe side to avoid the animal.

Though animals that spend a lot of time on courses can be more tame than others. I've seen geese take food right out of golf carts like we weren't even there. On the resort courses in the mountains deer just stand around and walk through fairways grazing.

canada geese think they own the place around here... they just give you an evil "f-u" look and go back to eating and crapping... deer that are "around people" on a regular basis (like on a golf course) quickly learn not to fear people... check out "the private life of deer" sometime (i believe it is on youtube), it's an interesting watch...

I had a few deer lay right next to a tee box I was hitting from in Denver once and I thought those animals were tame but the one in this picture is crazy.

Give me a minute to post my rattlesnake selfie. There was a very small one, like 10 inches, on the 6th tee earlier this year. A guy I was playing with mashed it with a 5 iron saying he didn't want it near his house, evidently he lived along the course. Ok I don't really have a snake selfie.

In CO we see all kinds of things. When I lived in Lakewood we came across a huge traffic jam, people parked on the sidewalk and crap. Two moose were hanging out in a field just off Jewel and Wadsworth, not exactly a wildlife preserve, it's in the middle of the city.

Very cool.

I doubt the deer was diseased, more likely hand-fed as a fawn. CWD is a lot like mad cow disease and I believe easy to tell something is very wrong with them.

The sad thing is that during the rut, a buck like this may get very aggressive towards humans and that usually doesn't end well for the deer.

The ones at our course are pretty laid back. Not tame like the one in the OP, but I've had to walk towards them clapping my hands to get them to move from in front of the tee boxes.

The deer in the picture: Any chance it nibbled some cannabis plants in the treeline?

It seems that the lot that patrols my home course are getting progressively more complacent with humans. I had two of them standing by the green on a par-3. Naturally I pulled the pill right over their pointy heads. Hardly impressed, they gave me a funny look as they ambled back towards the woods.
