I shot 81. Of course, we had a 3-club wind and the temperature was below 50 degrees... on the up side, the new tees will be completed soon.

Shot an 80. I really thought I would break in the 70's for the first time. I've really found the information on this site usefull. I usually shoot in the higher 80's so I'm definitely learning from everyone.

7 birdies = 3 under?!

I'll take it though. My putter was HOT, the driver was obeying, and I was hunting down flags. Gave myself two eagle putts, also almost holed a shot from the fairway. Had a lameass double bogey on 14, but went birdie, birdie, par, birdie on 15, 16, 17, 18 to finish. Missed from 12 feet on 17 too.

played on a course where Jun 10th I'll be trying to qualify for regional Pub Links. 79 with 35 putts That won't do it. Other than the flat stick - pretty decent round. You might say 35 putts ain't THAT bad... it includes a chip-in on 18th off the fringe ( 0 putts ), so it was bad.

Shot an 87 yesterday at The Gauntlet. Nothing fantastic, but significant for two reasons:

1) First time I've broken 90 in two months. An old back injury had flared up and I wasn't able to get down and through the ball, plus the obvious limitations of a restricted turn back and through impact.

2) There's a 528 yd par 5 that's got a series of fairway bunkers in play that usually causes me to lay up with a 3 wood (276 yds to carry the last bunker). Yesterday I decided to hit driver, and spanked it over the last bunker by 30 yards. Don't know what got into me, but I was able to at least try to go for the green in two (my 5 wood second ended up on the front fringe). Short game yips caused me to end up with par, but I at least had a chance.

Woohoo.

"I played like shit." -Greg Norman after the '96 Masters.

Yesterday my team shot a combined score of 119. It was a 4 man shamble with the lowest two net scores counting for the team. I also won 4 net skins. Came away with a healthy sum. My erratic driving did not help my team. Luckily we had a high school golf player who put it down the middle every time. I gave him $20 of my skin money.

Shot 77 today with 31 putts, 8 greens, and better than 50% up and down/sand save (because most of my ups and downs were putts or easy chips from very close to the green).

I made about five or six bad swings today, and each one led to a bogey. I'm really getting in better positions though working on my more upright, more one-plane swing.

I had many, many birdie putts inside 20 feet that just didn't go. Made two putts outside of five feet, both for par.

It was yesterday, but I still have to post because I tied my career low with a 76 at Farmington Hills Golf Club. Not bad for my first non-business trip round of the year. I shot 38-38, nicely balanced. Scrambled like crazy over the first five holes (including two penalty strokes), then got the driver working. On the par-5 7th hole, hit a 300-yard drive, then smoked a 215-yard hybrid shot onto the green. Just missed the 25-foot eagle putt. It was my only birdie of the day, but I had so many stress-free pars it was still great. I also hit some MONSTER drives. Almost drove the 354-yard 11th hole. Golf can be a pretty fun game. The only down part was losing a birdie to a fluke. On the 10th hole I had a 7-foot birdie putt that broke to the left. I stroked it right into the center, but the ball hit the little metal lip of the cup about an inch below ground just so ... and popped back out. This wasn't hitting it too hard and having it the back of the hole and bounce off, it was watching the ball tumble into the cup, then hearing a metallic noise and having the ball pop up and settle two inches away. Everyone in my group agreed they'd never seen anything like it. Could have had a 75 ...

I shot an 80 (39/41) at Draper Valley GC. I was hitting the ball fairly well (10 fairways and 10 greens) but i had 36 putts which really hurt me. Its a long course with huge greens so it kinda makes sense though.

With the three-day weekend, I was able to get a head-start by playing on Thursday evening. I also played Sat and Sun - shot a 94, 92, and 91. Not great scores, but an incredible improvement from the way I was playing. The new R7 is finally settling in -- only driving it 240-250, which is about 25 yards less than my R5, but much straighter . I'll take consistency over length any day. The new putter has also broken in now, and I have a lot fewer three putts. On Sunday (91), I had 8 birdie putt attempts (a record for me).

The outlook on the golf world is good again

Well the golf season is starting to heat up here in AK. I went out for a couple 9 hole rounds over the past few days and shot a 41 and a 44. Not too shabby for me. It was a good way to start the season off. Everything seems to be clicking for me right now. Maybe there is still hope to get that single digit handicap...

Ian Poulter had that happen to him last year at some event. I forget which... or maybe it was this year? At any rate, his was only a two- or three-footer and it popped right back like that.

I haven't played golf since Sunday, though I did get to watch Edoardo Molinari yesterday...

We had our annual 3 day family tournament this weekend. I broke 90 all three days, 87, 88, 85. Beating my longer hitting brother by 4 strokes! My best hole was my first ever birdie on a sharp dogleg left par 4 which forces a hard draw to avoid water or a big drive over trees and mounds to cut the corner. Since to cut the corner requires a 275 yard carry I hit a draw with a 4 wood. 210 yds according to my GPS, about 10 yards farther than usual. I wasn't carrying my 3 wood since this is the only hole I would hit it from the tee on. According to GPS I had 185 left, usually a 7 wood for me. Getting cocky I hit a four Iron and left it 8 feet from the hole and sank the put. I credit this site with helping me focus on shots not my swing since I have never broke 90 3 straight rounds before. With a little more consistency on my tee shots and approach shots and a little better putting I believe I will break 80 for the first time from the blue tees soon.

Last week I shot an 87 on my home course; not my best, and certainly not my worst. On Sunday, I played Spring Creek in Collierville, TN., just outside of Memphis, as a guest of a member. Spring Creek is a fairly new, very challenging Nicklaus designed course. The area is an Audabon designated nature preserve, and reflects a great deal of respect for the natural fauna. It is a flat out beautiful course! There is speculation that the FedEx St. Jude Tournament, which will change names next year to the Stanford Group St. Jude, will be played there in the near future. Playing the middle set of tees, the slope of which I believe is 132 ( from memory, I regret to say ), I shot a frightening 105. I couldn't putt well. The greens were very, very fast, undulating and dry. I nearly aced a short par three and then two putted for par -- humiliating. My friend and partner gave me no end of grief on that one. However, I experienced a rather strange and not unpleasant result on the first par 5 on the back nine. After sending my tee shot to the right and having to punch my second shot out from under a large and imposing tree limb, I lay 230 from the middle of the green, according to our SkyCaddie.
