Shot a 90 at a local par 72 course, despite hitting poor iron and wood shots all day. I partly made up for it with good wedge play though.

08-13-12 - Shot a 90 (117/69.2) The penalty strokes, double bogeys, triple bogeys, and 3 putts are killing me. I was shocked with a 90 because it felt like 190. I can't remember the last time I 3 putted. Had some really good shots where I can see my practice with ball striking coming through. I made some very careless mistakes and let things distract me. Basically my head wasn't in the game very much. I'm gonna play again today, but today I'm gonna take my scorecard from yesterday and review the mistakes so as to not do them again. I can feel a break through about to happen....

Great day today

par 72 6529 yards 72.6 rate 135 slope

shot 74 front 35 one under baby, back 39

putts 30

fairways 12/14

GIR 10/18

birdies 3

pars 10

bogies 5

LOL when I posted this score the computer said this score is unusual are you sure?

The real difference today was I played better irons than I have in a while, I have 4 too many swing keys I have to pay attention  to but I was able to hold it together, I knew I was close to breaking through with a round like this and I think I'm getting real close to a player who scores in the 70's very often.I do believe I will get below a 5 index this year with obviously more days like today but I think breaking 70 wich is my real goal has a real chance of happening in the next couple years with more practice on my irons and short game.

80 (+10). I was on fire with a 36 on the front 9 and could have gone lower after missing out on a couple of straight forward up and downs. Back 9 I started ok and was only 3 over through 13 but an OB drive and a couple of 3 putts let me down towards the end.

First time I feel my score is "official". Didn't give up on any holes, kept disasters to a minimum, hit some pretty good irons, only topped the ball twice. Par 72 course, out in 50, home in 53, under 100 is next hopefully. I'd say wedge play cost me a few strokes...drives were mostly on first cut at worst. It's like a drug huh?

Shot an 81 today from the navy tee boxes at Chambers Bay!  Can't complain with that score at all, considering the course!!

I shot a shaky 85 today  on my course which is 6300 yds par 69 having 6 par threes. I didn't win the money since the three lying criminals I played with announced handicaps so clearly improbable that in a decent well run society they would face custodial sentences. But I soldiered on , with a clear conscience and a putter that had manifestly been altered, probably by dark forces.

One of these gentlemen had a handicap of 17 and I walked off the course congratulating him on his game and asking in a casual way what his lowest handicap had been, 'six' he replied .ignoring my choking sounds ' but I have had a bad back, are you alright?'  Sometimes silence is all thats left.

81 at Riverwalk Mission/Friars (70.7/129) this morning.  Pretty decent, but I had a legitimate shot at breaking 80, so it was disappointing not to pull that off...  Highlights/lowlights:

  • Got a fried egg lie in the greenside bunker on 4 with the ball way below my feet, one foot in the bunker, one foot out.  Hacked it out past the flag to the fringe, but made the 25 footer down the hill for a sandy par.
  • Totally topped my drive on #9 - had to lay up twice - once with my rescue, once with a PW.  Hit my approach from 122 right at the flag, but came up about a yard short of the green.  The ball rolled back down the slope away from the green to about 30'.  Hit a perfect bump and run up the slope straight into the cup to save par and turn in 41.
  • Missed my tee shot so far right on #12 that I was right of the lake there.  However, my choke down SW from 95 landed about a two feet past the hole and spun back in for eagle.  :)
  • Played the back in 40, really helped by the eagle, but didn't hit a single fairway on the back.  My game off the tee is killing me...

Overall hit only 3 fairways, all with irons from the tee.  Only hit 5 greens too, but my misses generally weren't off by too much.  7 sand shots - spent a whole lot of time at the beach.  1 penalty stroke as I dumped a PW in the lake on #6 from the middle of the fairway, but saved bogey on it.  1 eagle, 6 pars, 11 bogeys...

Next up, 9 hole glow golf tournament on Friday on the Sail Ho executive course.  Then Torrey Pines North on Sunday...

I played extremely well yesterday, 74 at Rivermead Golf Club (71.7,130).  I was making really good, consistant contact with all my clubs and had a great day pin seeking. Was one over on the front nine and one over on the back. Total of three bogies, one birdie, and 14 pars :) I could have played much better though; I missed two birdie chances from between 5-10 feet, right edge both times, and one 15 footer that the hole spit back out. However I am extremely proud of my 74, Its the lowest round of the summer so far.

I played well today.........75.1cr 141sope

score:74

7 fairways

7 greens

26 putts

1/1 sand saves

My fairway and greens stats are marginal, but the misses were small misses and I hit the ball solidly today.  My best stat of the day was putting, but I didn't make anything!!!!   I did make 2 birdies (one was a tap-in), but I had several good looks and 3 deep lipouts that failed to drop.  The only reason my putting total was so low was because I hit some fringes and also left myself with relatively simple chips to save par.  Overall......it was still a very good day.

Shot a 91 today, which was actually a miracle considering I shot almost 50 on the front side.  It took me almost 7 holes to get rid of the shanks virus I picked up last round and figure out what I was doing wrong.

It all came together on the 7th hole, Par 3, 160yds over water with a NASTY hole location.  blind portion of the green and the hole was nestled in the corner (about a 14ft x 30ft) section protected by the rough on the left and the HUGE ridge seperating this small portion of the green from the rest of it.  Ball smacked the top of the ridge and trickled down the slope about 15ft past the hole and made the putt for bird.

Then my first ever EAGLE!  I was pumped.  Hit a poor drive left, was sitting on this hill above a bunker, ball WAY below my feet, and about 190yds out, ripped a 5 iron that felt as crisp as any that sat down on the left edge of the green and made about a 40ft putt up an over a ridge for the eagle - first one I've ever made!  Round went pretty smooth from there on out, single bogey on every hole on the back except for 18 where I finished with a par.  91 is about what I normally shoot (at this course) my best days are around 86-89.

Summing it up though, I battled through having the shanks, figured it out, got it working again and starting hitting some real crisp irons on the back.  Can't wait to go play again tomorrow!

Played like junk. 79... 6 over on the front with 2 doubles on to easy par 4s and a 6 on a super easy par 5...

back 9 was better. Started the back 9 with a 4 on a 560 yard par 5... drive to 230, 3h pin high, chip to 18" and made the put... definitely my best hole of the day... hole plays down hill.

I was not striking the ball nearly as well as I was the other day when I got run off the course by lightening. I was on course to shoot even... Sad thing was it never rained.

Blasted through the 90 barrier which I've been flirting with all summer & shot an 84 !!     Driver held together, long irons & wedges good ... putting was remarkable on the front, everything but putting was great on the back ... evened out with 42's on each side.   Worst shots were two hybrids off the tee on long par 3's - apparently, gotta work that out at the range.    Feels good to finally break through & achieve a goal...

Didn't play today, I'm ticked that I couldn't but had heart attack last week and still recovering.  Hope to be out playing in the next couple of weeks. so if you're out there playing stick a good one for me, right next to the pin.

Thanks

    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
