I don't bowl anymore, but I can only see one issue I have with this. I used to take out a single finger for 10 pin spare shots sometimes if the lanes were particularly dry. The fact that that would be illegal now doesn't make much sense to me. I never carried a plastic cover ball for spares, which does put me in the minority, but I wouldn't want to have to buy another ball for those extra dry conditions.
Even the announcer says something about being "almost bladed". If you look up shank in a golf dictionary, this shot would be the literal farthest distance from it. A cleanly struck ball is closer to a shank than this is.
