Finally got to play again! I haven't played, really, since Jeff visited. That was three weeks ago.

Hit one green on the front nine but got up and down a few times for about a 41. Started to get into a rhythm on the back nine and shot about a 38. I say "about" because it's leaf rule, we had a few temporary greens (they're aerating today), etc.

Note to self: don't take forgiving irons out when you're trying to get your game in shape.

I played my regular Sunday morning round. Back nine at White Lake Oaks. It was 43 degrees and foggy. i almost had to put on long pants to play. I started sloppy and wasy 6 over through 5 holes. I made a great par putt on 15 from the back fringe. On 16 I missed the green right and couldn't see the cup from where I was standing. I hit a flop shot that landed on the fringe and rolled in for birdie. A pushed drive led to a punch out on 17. I hit a wedge to 15 feet and rolled in the par putt. This meant that I needed to birdie 18 for my first 39 on this course. It's a double dog leg par 5 that goes left and then back right over water. I hit a soild draw that was just a hair too far right of center to leave a shot at the green. I actually used some course management here. I figured I wanted to hit my wedge from 110 yards so I took an 8 iorn and layed up. I could have gone another 35 yards and still been safe, but 110 is a good distance for me. I hit my wedge pin high to 8 feet. All that was left was the birdie putt. I was too calm but I still rushed it. I missed by about 2 inches on the low side. I don't know why I continue to torture myself. I walked off the course and went in and made a tee time for the following week. That is the fourth 40 I have shot. The crazy thing is, they were all so different.

Our association plays money rounds on the weekends. Usually a $3 Nassau with $3 junk (birdies, greenies, sandies).

Today there was an odd number of guys, so I volunteered to not play for money. "Screw that, Jimmy plays," the reigning Club Champ said. So they powers-that-be re-aligned the game and the Club Champ took me as partner.

The game: $5 Nassau with $5 junk. No handicap.

I birdied two of the first three holes. Club Champ birdied the fourth. And we were on our way.

In the end, we wound up with 3-under on the front and 1-under on the back with 7 junk as a team. We won all four bets and brought home $80 each.

I shot a 77 with three 3-putts and a double bogey after a shanked 5-iron.

Club Champ: 73. And he missed two putts inside three feet.

Not a bad morning.

Shot about 80. Better yet, getting back to where I should be in terms of feel and my swing and so on. Will need it this week!

very uneven weekend. Saturday: 85. Played in a "pro-am" event with our assistant pro (best ball of 3 + pro's score), so I did some stupid things that I'd never do playing my own ball. Sunday morning: 74 in perfect condition, very solid round = 15 pars and 3 bogeys. Afternoon - 83 with 2 birdies.
I guess I was getting tired

I went out Friday afternoon and played 18 at a local course. I started with a bogey and quadruple bogey (that will be great for Vegas at The Newport Cup ) on one and two, respectively. I wasn't really flustered for some reason. I ended up going four over on the remaining seven holes on the front nine to finish at 45.

I didn't play great on the easy back nine, but I shot a 41 regardless. All in all, an 86 wasn't too bad. I felt like I was striking the ball really well, but my putting was off all day. I never felt comfortable on the greens, and that's going to add the strokes up in a hurry.

Not a great round, but it could have been worse.

Will only really hurt if the other team birdies.

i went out yesterday and played in constant downpour of rain, and still managed to card an 84. I was 1 over on the back until the last three holes, bogeyed all the way out.

I played alone yesterday. at 7:30 when I teed off, I could not see more than 50 yards due to heavy fog. I kept walking up 100+ yards to make sure I was clear to hit. It wasn't until the 8th hole that I could see more than 100 yards.

I don't know if I was golfing or playing an old Nintendo boxing game. I was Punching Out all morning. I didn't hit the ball well, but I made some great putts and my lags were solid all day. I had a few good wedge shots. I ended up with a 44, but I won't post it since I did rehit a few shots. I didn't count them towards my score, but it helped me to feel better about what I was doing.

Shot 79 yesterday. It was a perfect day to play golf. The weather was cloudy and cool but no wind. Finally had a great day with my driver... didn't have one bad drive all day. Had one birdie and one triple. But overall I was pretty happy with the round.

Went out and played today, walked on and played with 3 guys I didn't know who rode power carts. I shot a 75 at a fairly easy course (par 68). Greens were very receptive although it was a little windy. First time I've played with two hybrids and I was really liking that - I started liking the consistent ball flight I was getting out of both hybrids - shots were low to medium trajectory and were really cutting through the wind. When I carry a hybrid and a 5 wood, the trajectories are so different... our afternoon golfin' days are waning here in Seattle and when the time changes will have to play on the weekends...

For the second straight day, I played in a tournament against a bunch of sandbaggers. They all wore red, and all made many more birdies than their handicaps would seem to indicate. So far, I've lost all four matches I've played. I'd look for these guys wearing red on the PGA Tour sometime soon.

I'm pretty excited. I've been playing about four years, but only fairly intensely for the last year with actual lessons and focused practise sessions. So, last Sunday I decided to finally get my first card witnessed/signed as a start to getting an official handicap (Southern CA Golf Assocn). Par 60 "Executive Course", 4 par 4's and the rest 3's. I started with a 40ft chip-in for birdie, then bogie, double, bogie, after which I calmed down and parred the rest on the front nine and shot a 5-over 65 total. This is much the best I've ever played, even though I 3-putted 4 or 5 times (some greens were being aerated and the ball sometimes bounced like crazy).

OK, it's not a "proper" par 72 course, but to be honest my short game is what usually lets me down, not teeing off on par 4's and 5's so much. Anyway, I am encouraged and feel that my wife's purchase of some nice irons for me a couple years ago (see below) is starting to pay off.

There's nothing like posting an honest-to-goodness signed score for the first time. All lumps were taken on the course. Makes you feel almost like a real golfer. What a splendid game this is, if maddening at times.

I played yesterday at a 9 hole par 36 course. It was kind of rough for me. There was a lot of wind. Some holes I was going with the wind while others I was playing into the wind. Also a couple of holes the wind was sweeping across. I have never played in wind like that so I was misjudging the distance of my clubs all day.

Round Score # of Putts Fairways Hit

1 ------- +32 --------- 31 ---------- 4
2 ------- +23 --------- 23 ---------- 2
3 ------- +18 --------- 20 ---------- 1

As you can see my putting really determines my score. As far as fairways hit, I was barely off the fairway. I would just get into the rough, no more than about 2-3 feet off the fairway. At least as the day went on my scores started to drop. I just have to get out there and practice a lot more.

How do you get in 6 fairway bunkers in 9 holes . . . i don't know but i did it today. Found bunkers i didn't know even existed. Funny thing is rarely do i get into bunkers, many rounds i have no bunker shots.

It's that diabolical Johnny Miller, he finally bit me with his Eagle Ridge design!

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, sometimes you get the course, sometimes the course gets you, but i kept grinding to a 9 hole 45 with a quite a few excellent shots along the way, but the course was penal today, that was its mood, just like the weather, blustery, cold, sprinkling.

Next time it will be a different story!

I broke my 9 hole personal best today. 47 strokes. I know it doesn't sound like a huge deal to a lot of you, but it's an accomplishment to me. I stared walking 9 instead of riding 18 and I seem to be doing better, plus saving a few bucks.

    • I mean, if you like GZ, and would drink it more often during a round than water, then keep drinking that. If you walk 18 holes, on a hot summer day, and drink 2 20-oz waters or 4 20-oz GZ. You will benefit more from the 4 20-oz GZ because it's like 99.99% water, lol. Yea, if flavored water makes you drink more water, then that works better.  I would just monitor the salt intake relative to your own health. I am sure some people might have to be careful. GZ is 280 mg salt. So, 4 of those is over 1000 mg. It is over 4 hours. That is like half the daily recommended intake of salt. You are probably losing some of your salt reserves playing golf. Long winded way of saying, it depends on the person.
    • My first few years playing golf, I'd take a 32 oz Gatorade (probably pre-zero;  almost certainly Gatorade Tiger when that was a thing) with me in my bag, but I'd otherwise take water (in about the volumes I take now).  From your post, it seems like going back to something like that might be a better idea for me -- primarily water (maybe with some fruit or mint leaves thrown in for flavor) and one bottle of sports drink, rather than a diluted sports drink across all I'm drinking?
    • Yesterday evening, I watched The Gentlemen, a Guy Ritchie film from 2019 that I evidently missed on first pass.  It's a par, but it's a par on one of those long par-4s where the par feels like a birdie. It's in a similar vein to some other movies like Lock Stock, Snatch, or Layer Cake (which was Vaughn, not Ritchie).  If you liked those, I think you'll like this.   A friend suggested it a few months ago, and I started it one night and couldn't finish because I was having trouble following.  In retrospect, that was an artifact of trying to watch the movie too late in the day.  I started the movie at the beginning earlier yesterday and got to enjoy the full thing very much, but unlike some other movies, I encourage anyone to watch this when they're awake enough to catch which characters are which.  In my case, watching with subtitles helped me understand what some characters were saying.
    • Sweat contains about 800 to 1500 mg per liter. For me, about 45 minutes of moderately intense workout had me lose about 3-lbs of water weight. That is about 1-liter. Now, a thing you need consider how much salt you are getting from food. Humans have been perfectly fine eating food with extra salt added. Typically, people would get 500 to 1000 mg of salt just from eating whole foods. Most people eat processed foods, which have more salt. So, we probably are not salt deprived. We are constantly digesting food we eat and taking in that salt. Unless you are fasting, and working out, you probably are slowly getting salt back into your body.  I will say electrolyte powder is probably beneficial for people for intense training or long endurance activities in the perspective of improving fluid retention (helps in recovery) and preventing cramping. I would say, just drinking water is way more important in general. For something like running marathons, absolutely beneficial. For golf, this is a marginal benefit.  In terms of ideal electrolyte ratios, you want to be in the 2:1 to 4:1 sodium to potassium ratio. Though, I have also seen ratios closer to 20:1. This mechanism is vital for nerve impulses, cell volume control, and kidney functions. Potassium is essential for muscle contractions. Magnesium is good for muscles function as well.  Ultima Replenisher: 55mg salt, 250mg potassium, 100mg magnesium.  *Probably good for people who don't eat a lot of whole foods, or foods with a lot salt. Probably one in the same, lol.  LiquidIV: 500mg salt, 370mg potassium, no magnesium.  LMNT: 1000mg salt, 200mg potassium, 60mg magnesium. Skratch: 400mg salt, 50mg potassium, 50mg magnesium.  Transparent Labs: 500mg salt, 250mg potassium, 50mg magnesium. If I had to choose one, I would probably go with Skratch. My diet isn't 100% whole foods, so I get plenty of salt.  Note, if you have kidney issues, I would be wary of adding excessive salt. Salt can be very hard on the kidneys, and you might be negating the benefits of drinking that water.
    • I ran the nutrients for Ultima Replenisher  by my friend who is nutritionist. She said it was a decent breakdown. So I bought the berry and lemonade packs at Target. Will give a try on the course today.
