Finally broke 90!

I shot 89 today!  Not bad considering this is my first year playing golf and I started the season shooting in the 120s!

Took this week off. I had my buddy's birthday party last night and I wouldn't have been in any condition this morning to concentrate lol

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

It's been 2 weeks since I've played, shot an 87, and a week since I've swung a club. Having to be at work at 5am, and when I get off at 1pm it's already in the triple digits. Looks like I'm taking a few weeks off until the temps drop back into the mid 90's. Until then I'll be focusing on working out with more golf related exercises. I will be doing some chip shots in the back yard though. I don't want to stop swinging a club completely. Guess I could call this the "off season".....

My Bag:

+19 on an executive course with 2 par 4s.

trying to take a new swing out on the course, and it obviously wasn't ready for prime time. even my best shots left obvious out to in divots, but my wedge game looked pretty good. came an inch from chipping in and my wife put hers 6" from almost the same position i hit from.

in other news, it was gorgeous out here and it was worth it.

I played really well today tee to green.  I don't remember the last time I hit 100% of my fairways... It has been a long, long time.  I burned a ton of edges, could've went really low (for me) today... But just couldn't get the puts to drop for the most part.  I'm close to having a break through in my game... I can sense it as everything is starting to feel natural (with all the swing changes I've been making)... So I expect to start really scoring soon.

i forgot she took a picture, from 15' behind the green in some nasty rough this is what we ended up with:

that $5 rusted out cleveland sandwedge is the best thing i ever bought her (until she starts knocking it closer than me that is).

Shot 89 yesterday at Coronado GC, white tees, par 72 70.1/117. Off the tee, I was terrible. Only 4 fairways all day - and one of those was from a pulled 3i that hit the rocks down the right side that protect the course from San Diego Bay, but ricocheted into the middle of the fairways. I tried the driver, tried 3w, 3i off the tee and couldn't get anything going. Had to punch out or lay up 7 times in 14 tee shots. Ugh. This was my first round with my new irons after having them re-shafted and bent. Definitely happy with them, although I need a few more rounds to really get the feel for them. When I wasn't killing myself off the tee, I made quite a few good approach shots, including a 6i from 165 into a 2 club wind that landed 6 feet left of the hole. Putting was pretty good as well with 29 putts and only 1 3 putt. At least I finished well with a par-birdie finish to take the low overall for our foursome by 1 shot. Actually hit the fairway on 18 with a 270 yard drive, which makes the game a hell of a lot easier! Finished 2nd in our skins game with 6. Of course with the way skins work, the guy who shot 102 won the skins with 7... (We do 18 'regular' skins plus a skin for low score on each 9...) I picked up a Groupon for 2 30 minute lessons with swing analysis last week, so I'm going to schedule at least one session this week and see what the guy can tell me...

Im really upset at my game from yesterday. I should be really happy. It was a par 71 course only rated at like 68 but I start out with a bogie, then a topped tee shot on two followed by a 240 yard hybrid (while the group was ahead of me on the green) I had to go rush up and apologize. Best hybrid of my life. Dead straight 240. Followed that shot with a birdie. Caught a flyer on the next hole or something. My ball landed middle green, bounced about 6 feet high then landed in the rough. Took bogie on that hole and followed it with pars the rest of the front 9. Really good front nine. Finished with 36. Best 9 of my life by far. Hole 10 comes up and I have been working on a shot that is dead straight, may fade or draw a little but It is pretty consistent. I start to feel buzzed as I was pounding pretty hard (kind of a slow round). Get to the tight 10th fairway par 5 and decide that the fade is more likely. Well I hit a beautiful baby draw OB. I ended up with a double after playing my provisional. Next hole bogie, FOLLOWED BY A QUAD BOGIE!!!! pretty much ruined my game right there. then I went bogie par bogie. Got to the last three holes and told my self I need birdie birdie par. 210 yard par 3. Put it about 7 feet from the pin. Uphill side hill and worse green condition green of the day. Next par 4 I have about a 12 footer for birdie. MISS that too. Hole 18 I put one OB and 3 putt ended up with like a triple. Ended 84. Most days I would be happy with that but to go 36 48 was just rough. Wish my bad would have been more evenly spread out. Also would have been able to avoid some 7s and that 8

I didn't have time to hit the range before my round today. I used the first 9 to warm up a bit and the back to keep score. I ended the day with a solid even par 36. A few birdies were left out on the course. Missed a 6 footer and rimmed out a 25 footer. Overall, a pretty good day on the course.

88 at a fairly tough course. Pretty challenging off the tee with alot of trees and narrower fairways which is why I have always struggled there. I did yesterday too kinda. Through 16 I was either par or double bogie. Pretty much offset eachother all day. I only bogied every par 3 but par 4s were par or double. Hole 17 in the dark par 3. Birdie, hole 18 in the dark also, Beautiful drive on the par 5 left myself 190 over water. Had to go for it. Thinned a 5 iron and went to look for it on the rough but eventually found it on the far left of the green but flag was far right. Impossible to read the green in the dark. I told my playing partner, Im just gonna play it about a foot to the right. I executed that perfectly but it ended up breaking right. I also had great pace and finished birdie birdie on a course where i have shot 90 there once and 92 like 3 times. I think the CDF is 72.9 from the blues where I played.

I really felt in control of all my clubs today. Had some trouble around the greens. First hole perfect 3 iron around the dog leg leaving myself 140 and just overshot it into the bunker and came up with a double. Story of the day was everything depended on my second shot.

Played Sunday morning for the first time in about a month and a half.  Shot an 88 at the Eagle Course at Kittyhawk Golf Course in Dayton, OH.  Had some great shots (2 tap in birdies) and some terrible shots (took a 9 on a par 5).  I was putting like a champion, so that probably helped my score quite a bit.  Only had 1 three putt, and made what seems like everything within 15 feet.  So all in all was pretty good considering I hadn't played in awhile.

Career 9-holes for me this evening. I shot a 40 (+5, 32.6/118), hit every fairway, nearly half the greens, and (barely) averaged less than 2 putts. I was eyeing a 39 but couldn't manage a par over the final two holes. I was around the green on the par 5 8th in 2 shots and ended up with a 6. Oh well, it's hard to complain about a 40. Previous best on the front 9 was a 42. With GolfShot, I generally keep an eye on my net score as I progress through each hole. I knew I was doing well as the score kept going lower and lower. :-)

Shot an 18-hole score of 100 at a new and super tough course (70.1/124), despite hitting excellent shots with all my clubs. I just changed my swing a few days ago to keep my head more still and my swing on line, resulting in well struck and straight shots.

The greens at this course were the worst part (Fairways and rough were quite easy). Most of the greens were harsh and unreadable and the pins were set up in "Sunday-like" conditions and well protected. I three-putted most of them and I consider myself a good putter.

46 today (9 holes).  Smashed my previous best of 107 for 18, and that one even included a few mulligans.  It's amazing what eliminating penalties and 3-putts does for the score.  I didn't feel like I played that well, but I didn't lose a ball all day, only had 1 3-putt, and got up and down pretty well.  I'm now even more hooked on golf than before, if that's possible, and I can't wait to go play 18 and hopefully break 100 (maybe 90 soon after?).  Obviously a 46 is nothing compared to what some of you guys are shooting, but I feel pretty good about it for only my 3rd round ever!
