Ugh, where do they bring these guys from..  I didn't understand what the hell Chamblee was trying to say, and I definitely didn't get what the second guy then tried to piggy back on but he clearly doesn't known which side is right side up.

lame.

Brandel Chamblee has been criticizing the TW swing changes for years now.He has been on the tour no matter what we think of him...the "second guy" is David Duval a former world  #1 ranked player.

I like Brandel most of the time. He can put off a "jerk" vibe every so often but he is still a lot better than most of the other commentators. He does his research at the very least. He makes a lot of sense at times, just check out this vid.

I disagree with that. There have been plenty of times he'll:

  • cherry-pick a relatively meaningless statistic.
  • cite something as his "evidence" while ignoring that other top players do the same thing.
  • rely on a faulty camera angle or one or two specific shots to make sweeping generalizations.

There's no answer to the question posed because… we don't have time machines that are capable of going back in time and keeping Tiger with Butch or Hank.

??  I'm not familiar with what it is you are alluding to, if you can further explain?

Yeah, he was a great ball (is a great ball striker) but doesn't mean that he can articulate his thoughts about the golf swing.  To me he looked like he was reaching for things to say.

Pro golfers tend not to slag other pro golfers' swings, especially when they are your friends, and especially on national tv.Reaching for the "right" words may be in play.

I watched the video:

- You compare any golfer's swing 15 years apart and it's going to look different.
- Tiger 2001 still pelvic tilted, his left hip is lower than his right hip at A4.
- Camera angels are different. The one on the right is what we jokingly called the "S&T Certified" angle because it makes players appear that they are "hanging" more on their left side and tilting more left than they actually are.
- Here's a driver swing from earlier this year where he had some good axis tilt at address, "moved" off the ball and certainly wasn't leaning left or hanging on his left side at 4. And he played like crap.

tiger.thumb.jpg.d26da1f2ae45141173d52254

- I don't Brandel is 100% wrong but it's more about the way he goes about "proving it" is what rubs me the wrong way.

He's a media guy and is just looking for stuff to talk about that will catch people's attention.

Swings are cherry-picked to emphasize his point. Swing on the left is full-out driver. Swing on the right is 3 wood and very likely a stinger that by design has more shaft lean and is more 'left sided'.

What BC leaves out of his constant criticism is the question why? Why does Tiger change his swing? He eludes to Tiger trying to find some magical improvement. But the real answer is the prevent further injury. If BC just stated that, then it would make more sense. But it is easy for BC to sling mud than actually investigate and be a real reporter. That is why many don't like him.

I'm  more focused on TW's swing than why BC is liked or not.

Has Brandel been right about Tiger's swing?.........I don't see where liking BC is part of that.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
