Though his attention right now is surely on basketball, Steph Curry might be thinking about golf on his off days. It's no secret that Curry loves the game, but as we saw in a picture shared on Twitter Sunday evening, golf has been Curry’s second love for a long time.

The guard for the Golden State Warriors and reigning NBA MVP played three years of golf in high school at Charlotte Christian School, according to the San Francisco Gate. By the time he was a senior, he was the number one player on the team.

Nowadays, he might have more high-profile tee times, but his golf game did have humble beginnings, evidenced by this black and white photo shared by Darren Rovell of ESPN:

Doesn't surprise me, but I'm glad to hear it.  I love hearing when celebrities in other fields turn out to have played golf in high school.  Kenny G played for his high school team also, if I remember correctly.

He is a scratch golfer so you had to figure he's been playing for a long time. Loads of talent.

Amazing athlete and I can see him attempting to join the PGA tour post his basketball career if injuries do not take a toll.  At that point if he will have the requisite game is more debatable but I can definitely see him putting in the necessary practice hours to get his game up to par.  He is not the first athlete who has played school or even university level in two different sports and been capable of turning pro in either.

Yeah, but no harm in trying right? He's making good money so Qualifying fees for Q-School aren't really an issue.

This is the truth - people have no idea how different the game is on the PGA tour. Courses are stretched, rough grow in, greens are faster and pins are tucked. I have a cousin who was a club pro, his game was way ahead of us chuckleheads when he would play with us; he played to about a +1. He would tell us how much harder courses were, and how much better the players were. And his point of reference was the couple of Nike tour events that he played in a Monday qualifier.
He gave up the glamorous golf life of folding shirts, cleaning carpets, stocking shelves and the occasional lesson to run his own business.

To what end? He's nowhere near the level of play he needs.

Q-School doesn't give out PGA Tour cards anymore. He'd have to make on the Web.com Tour, where again he would not be able to compete.

He might be able to play some mini tours with serious dedication but I can't imagine why. Doesn't need the money and could do a lot of other events that would probably be more enjoyable. I doubt he'll be retiring anytime soon so by the time he'd even get into competitive golf he will likely be getting close to 40. With his cash I'd rather join a nice club and just play every day after retirement and maybe try and be the club champ or something.

Yeah, I'm more thinking along the lines of "I'm a retired multimillionaire why not waste this money qualifying for something I know I won't make." More of a hobby at that point.

A pro athlete who has played at the highest level in his sport isn't going to want to get his ass whipped for fun. There is just too much pride there. He's going to find an appropriate level of competition like a Club Championship at a very nice club

Most professional athletes who make good money do not take up another sport for the money.  They do it because they are too competitive to just laze back and do nothing.  Look at MJ, who took up baseball when he first retired post the three-peat and death of his father.  Perhaps if he retires from basketball at 40 he might be a bit less competitive but if it is mid 30's at most, the juices would still be flowing.

Anyway, didn't realise that there was such a huge gap in the level of play between club professionals and the pro's playing on the tours

Hasn't Jerry Rice gotten his lunch handed to him on the then Nationwide? Golf always seems to other sport super athletes to be easiest to transition to and achieve the highest level. They never seem to, regardless of their given mindset, focus, 'neuro-muscular' prowess and all.

There's a lot of room between "laze back and do nothing" and "try to get a PGA Tour card."

The gap is HUGE.
