So I went to play today and noticed my driver was loose.  I have a Nike Covert 2.0 with an adjustable head.

Basically the hosel came loose and the shaft has worn out marks all over it.  Like it has been twisting hard.  The club won't sit down all the way and when I swing the head is wobbly.

I will post pictures soon but was curious if anybody has seen this before and if it is salvageable.   Or if I should just buy a new driver.

Thanks!

I have an old Dunlop driver you can buy. It is well used, and has a genuine wooden head. I am prepared to accept £150, but you will have to pick it up.

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

Its that gap to the left of the "right" text that is causing the problems.  And you can see the worn marks on the shaft.

"Worn marks" are more likely the area of the shaft where the factory cleaned the tip to promote epoxy adhesion....which didn't work...

They really cheaped out on the epoxy, I would expect to see some residue or flakes but that sucker is totally clean.

Do you think its still worth fixing?  I love the driver and hit it well but don't want to have to fix the club every so often or worry its gonna go flying off.

After seeing an actual photo it looks like a simple repair. My only concern would be potential cracks in the shafts from being swung without being properly secured. If you took it to a stop they'd be able to tell better.

It was a joke about Phil Mickelson taking a shot at Nike back in the day. That being said, Nike clubs always seemed a little bit off to me.

Lol didn't even see the Phil M. Guess I'm too young to understand anyway ;D

Ok cool!

Thanks for the all the help guys!  I had never had a club do that before.  I'll take it in and have them take a look.

What do you want me to say, toss it and get a new one or fix it move on. It looks clean and ready to glue. Unless you can see damage I think you are fine...

If you just want a new driver, smash up the tip a little and tell your wife, mom or grandma you need a new one....

Well I love this driver so I would prefer to keep it.  Just didn't want to fix if it its just gonna be a problem all the time.  I have no expertise in club repair.

I'm just busting your chops a little. YouTube is your friend, do a search on epoxying a driver.

Take it in. It'll cost you $10 to fix it. Doing it yourself will cost you the time to go buy the stuff you need. Trial and error.

It is a simple fix to re epoxy the adapter. You can purchase cheap epoxy at golf galaxy. Just make sure to roughen up the tip of the shaft with sandpaper before you re epoxy the adapter to the driver shaft.

I would add to also clean out the hosel of old epoxy.

@pumaAttack

If you have a magnifying glass, inspect the shaft and look for cracks that run along the length of the shaft and also perpendicular. Flex the tip with your fingers and rotate. If there are no cracks, you are good to go. The shop should do this too.

No it's the part of the hosel.  It's not the adjustable part.  I tried tightened it twice.

I'd contact Nike and see if you can get any satisfaction. Maybe go through the golf shop where you bought it. That stuff should not come loose!

Hey while you're at it if you like that shaft you can have the flex 2.0 adapter put on so you can drop in a newer Nike head if you ever desire.

So I have played 3 rounds with the driver since having it fixed and the results are not good.  I am fading the club, something I have never done with it.  I have probably lost about 10-15 yards as well.

I don't fade any other club, like at all, and that's the only shape I can get with this driver now.  I hit my old Titleist 907D2 and that was my normal draw, so it's not my swing. I played around with all of the adjustments and can't seem to get it back.

Do you guys think that the repair would alter the characteristics of the club that much?

No. Not really.

You fade the ball because the clubface (or gear effect) produce a tilted spin axis.

You're working on changing your swing, concurrently, too are you not?

    • Day 40: short range session. Worked on my drill mostly. Finished with some full swings and driver swings. Range was packed because it was so nice out. Solid session though.
    • Day 5, 1/3/26.  Today was a weird day schedule-wise, but I did find 15 minutes to hit 6-iron shots (indoors, off a mat, into a net).  I also got to thinking about yesterday's round and, other than a few thin shots (that I think were weather/grip related), I didn't have any wild non-driver shots, which was weird for me.  I need to get back to video, which is tough in my setup. Also, this wouldn't count on its own, but anyone reading this and thinking about doing their own 5 minutes daily, check out Fit for Golf's latest podcast episode.  It's only a few minutes and Mike does a great job talking about the importance of doing a bit each day.  That also reminded me, I let my FFG subscription lapse, I'm going to renew it.
    • Day 32 (3 Jan 26) - Misty, rainy day - opted to rehearse swing in the mirror - focused on face position at P6 thru P9.
    • Day 460 - 2026-01-03 Set up GEARS Hybrid for a lesson, so used it in the morning for checking a few things from yesterday.
    • Day 14 - 2026-01-03 Mat and net work, focusing again on trail body parts. Ready for the ranges around here to open again.
