Well, about 9 liberals here alone said they'd vote for him, if that gives you any idea.

Trump making a deal behind closed doors. Cruz will admit to an affair with Amanda Carpenter soon and drop out of the race, giving Trump the nod.

Who do the rest of you plan to vote for? If you're anti-Trump (fine, whatever), who are you voting for? "Not Trump" isn't really an answer.

I don't know enough about politics to have much to say one way or the other about anyone, really, but I'll close the thread down and NOT start another if this thread turns into the same thing as the old one.

I will state again in this thread that I am a committed Trump supporter. I voted Trump above and I am glad to discuss my opinions in this thread. It does get tiring arguing with folks who are in the "anyone but Trump" crowd. I hear it every day online and in my daily life.

People ask why I support Trump and I tell them this: Europe has been flooded with immigrants and Europeans can no longer walk the streets of their cities safely. They are being made to change their lives to protect themselves from immigrants. That's the daily stuff that happens on top of things like the Paris and Brussels attacks. I do not wish for my children to grow up in such a situation, I do not want the United States to follow that same path that Europe has. I will stand firm that that single issue is more important than all others, even the crudeness of the messenger.

So it is your belief that all immigrants are bad?

It is my belief that allowing your country to be overrun by aggressive, able-bodied, military age men is wrong. It amounts to an invasion by invitation.

We know that ISIS has infiltrated Euro countries by posing as immigrants. Even if 1% of them are bad it is reason enough to close the borders to those coming from those countries.

Saudi Arabia and other rich, Muslim nations sit much closer and could easily help if there was a real need for these people flee.

I believe Erik mentioned that he only listed the 4 people who have a legitimate chance of getting the nomination for the general election. Kasich has next to no chance of getting in the GE so he was not listed as an option in the poll.

If he were able to get into the GE, he's probably the most likely to get me to vote. The four we have to choose from, though, no thanks. There's not a chance in hell that I'd vote for Clinton or Sanders and I just can't get behind Trump or Cruz. It's a sad state of affairs.

Tightly controlled immigration is a modern necessity.  Many countries don't allow any immigration at all unless you have a critically needed profession.  Very few of the current US immigration applicants (and none of the illegals already here) would even come close to meeting that sort of criteria.  If controlling the wrong types from entering the US necessitates ethnic profiling, even on a temporary basis, then so be it.

I'll back anyone who includes strong immigration restrictions in their platform.  The US is not the wide open spaces that it once was when unlimited immigration was encouraged and sought after.  We can no longer afford to openly provide our form of liberty to anyone who asks.  We lack the space, the natural resources and the jobs for it.  That is simply a fact in this world of 7.4 billion people.

That's exactly why both parties are afraid of him. Refreshing.

My hope is that government workers will be responsible for their actions, and treated accordingly. They are currently "untouchable" no matter how badly they screw up or treat citizens.

Trump will have a difficult time when he starts trying to randomly fire a lowly clerk in the VA or cleaning house in some agency on a whim.
This will open him up to lawsuits.
And this is not the reason the parties are afraid of him. The know he is a clueless bull in a china shop.
Govt workers are not afraid of Trump because they think he will make them work more. They are afraid because he is going to try and fire them and outsource their jobs or replace them with Trump hired H1-B1's. All wrapped up and sold as a "Trump cutting waste and increasing Govt Efficiency plan"!

As to who I would vote for, probably Bernie.
If it comes down to Clinton vs Republican. Than Clinton.
Bible thumping republicans have always been too quick to think this is a "christian" country and place non jebus lovers on the outside looking in.

I'm all for stronger immigration reform. I am not for building a wall that will just become a sinking ship you need to chuck money into to keep up, that might not even adequately serve it's purpose.

The issue isn't accepting more people who want freedom, the problem is people coming over here for freedom then killing or hurting other citizens with that new found freedom.

You realize the amount of "terrorism" especially form immigrants is FAR FAR FAR below that of domestic gun violence.  Violence from gangs, mental health issues, disputes, etc.

It's not even close.  Yet we are more concerned with immigrants than fixing our own domestic issues...

The new border fences, which closed off Hungary from Serbia in September and continued around the border, finally cutting the country off from unwanted incursions from Croatia earlier this month have been so successful the number of illegal migrants has dropped off the charts.

Domestic issues do not destabilize the safety and security of our nation. Allowing the enemy into our country does.

We can build a wall and halt immigration. We can't stop inner-city folks from killing each other, but we can stay out of the inner-city.

So so backwards...

You are afraid of .00000000001% of a problem yet blissfully ignore the other 99%.  All in the name of keeping your family safe...

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
