I have to admit that I use to get a bit frustrated to not be able to get on some of the par 4's in two which I always though were reachable for me, if only I had the right equipment. Before adding an 3-4 adjustable hybrid to my bag my second shots would always fall short of the greens. Now that I have been able to play a couple of rounds of golf using my new hybrid on second shots, I have been able to reach some of the par 4 holes in two which I would always end up short of before adding this hybrid to my bag. For the first time ever, I was able to reach some of these greens in 2, even though the fairways were very wet and soft which didn't allow for hardly any roll on my drive shots. I should be able to do even better once the fairways dry out some so I can get good ball roll on my drive shots. This should be an exciting season for golfing with the addition of my new Cobra bio cell 3-4 adjustable hybrid.

Based upon previous threads and posts you've made in the past. You can probably increase your odds of reaching par 4s in 2 by teeing up forward.
Try playing from 5500 yard tees or less and let us know if the game is still frustrating.

I have been using the senior tee boxes whenever they are available.

IMO if you face more than a couple par 4's where it's necessary to hit a hybrid you are playing the wrong tees. Just sayin'. I'll have a few recovery shots after a poor drive but on all but the two longest par 4's at the home course my average approach is 6-PW range. I use my hybrids on the tee and to escape trouble more than anything.

I have been playing the senior tees when they are available and teeing it forward but I'm 67 years old and am not a big hitter.

I know how you feel. My longer game is behind me, and getting farther behind me with every year that passes. I still hit decent yardages, but I attribute that to swinging a club just about every day.  400-430 yards are about my limit to get on in two. Some days maybe more. Colder days definately less.

Most of the ccourses I play regularly, the tees dont matter since they are so close to each other.

Does my shorter long game cause me grief? Not in the least. I am just glad I am out having fun, while knowing I am not the worst golfer on the course.

I'm 69, but there are not many par 4 holes that I can't reach in 2 from the middle tees on most courses.  My local course has some shortish par 4 holes, but also 2 long ones that I have never reached in 2 (one I've missed the green pin high wide a couple of times, but I'm usually short).

Nobody would accuse me of being a long hitter either.  I carry a 5 wood and a 7 wood for that reason.  I retired my 3 wood even though I can hit it okay, because it wasn't significantly longer than the 5 wood that I bought last year.  I'm more accurate with the 5 wood.

My step-dad is 68 and he typically plays the same tees I do, which is nuts, but he will move one up on the longer holes. I tire of seeing my folks struggle because they don't seem to enjoy it much when they do. I may move up when I play with them just to get them moving up.

He hits a driver about as far as I hit a 5 iron. Same deal he's driver hybrid on every hole but his 4 hybrid is his 150-160 club. Not sure the most forward tees would get it out of his hands. But it'd be better than him hitting driver-hybrid-PW or whatever. Their private course is tough hitting decent shots.

Same here, the one course I play, the tee box on 9 of the 18 holes are so close together you might only gain 8 - 10 feet. Then there is the other nine in which the senior tee boxes make a noticeable difference.

I'm happy with my short game from 125 yds in. It's those shots of 175 - 200 yds that I was hoping to cover and I have noticed that the hybrid has helped me do that even though the fairways are currently soggy and things are playing slow.

I don't care how old or how much of a 'short-hitter' ANYONE might be, but on Sunday, the course I played had #9 playing at 430 and #18 at 425 yards respectively.  On a slow track, a 225 yard drive (on a DRY day for me) still leaves 200 to both par 4 greens.  And my second shots into those greens weren't anything close to 6-PW for me.  Both were 5-woods and likely similar for many players.  And there are plenty of par 4s out there that play driver, fairway wood or hybrid for many of us.  We played the middle tee boxes on a better-than-average public course.

9-wood:  Good to hear the new hybrids are working out for you. Hope you hit a lot of greens with them.

AMEN dave - I haven't as yet met any 67 year olds that hit a 6 iron 200 yds. I'm not saying they don't exist, only that I haven't as yet met any of them. As for myself, I can hit my 6 iron about 150 yds or so. Most of the 65 -70 year old golfers I have seen play have a difficult time hitting their driver 200 yds. Not everyone of us in here are young long hitters, yet we are still on this side of the dirt and still enjoy getting out and slowing down the few younger power hitters we run into on any given day because hey, were retired and we have the time just so long as we are not late for our early bird specials, senior discounts and 8:30 bed times.

Most men don't hit 6 irons on a hole in the 425 yard range, it's a driver 4 iron or whatever. That's a one-two par 4 a side situation at most. Nothing wrong hitting driver hybrid on a hole like that.

you shouldn't be playing 425 yd par 4s, 9-wood. Your longest par 4 should be about 370. You should be having more fun. If the hole is way too long like that, move up a tee.

Playing different tees can change the way a course plays.  Given you are fast and keep pace play any tee box you want.  What's wrong with having the par 4's play like par 5's?

As long as you are having fun it's all good.

Where they have them. I play senior tees and he won't have 425 yd par 4s from them. It's on courses that don't have them.

I've seen longer courses with the forward tees at 5600 or 5700 yds, so just because they're not traditionally the "men's tees" they're the same distance as senior tees. No reason to play from the whites on these courses if you can't play a 400+ yd par 4.

Unless unless there isn't a set of tees more forward than the "senior" tees, there's a choice.

Which is fine it's just two holes, it's common for all of us to get out of our comfort zone on a couple holes. That's exactly why we carry hybrids and fairways. Our longest par 4's are 440 and 430 and we typically hit driver and 4 iron or longer depending on the quality of our drives. I had enough of a struggle last season I built a club just to use on a few holes. The 14 clubs gives us a decent range of tools to manage the course with.
